I have some USD forks off a Gixxer 750, but I have decided that it alters the stock look too much.

Any suggestions for a performance fork, I don't care the OD size as long as it is close to the same length- I just want a good, plentiful, conventional fork that I can adapt the hubs off a dual disc KZ and run a bit fatter front tire (120 17) and retain the stock look this way.

I hate the current front forks, they ae way too 70s handling for what I am used too!

1975 Z1 B 900- soon to be heavily modded
Pahoa, Hawaii is my new hom
I am working hard to save up the shipping money to get my shop opened here in Hawaii
I hate electrical stuff.

There's always a fork brace to stiffen it up and the gold valves from race tech. These are cartridge emulators and should spruce things up nicely. This way your wheel, brake calipers etc will all fit nicely. You can get aluminum rims that are a little wider (east coast wheels and buchanan's) and will lace up to your current hubs. While you're re-lacing you can powder coat the hubs and install new maintenance free wheel bearings...jeez can I get carried away or what?

Hope this helps....

I had no idea that there were catridge emulators for these forks- wow- that would change everything!

Okay- I looked at the race tech site- they don't give a part # for a Z1900

You know which one to order?

It depends on the type of damping rod used in your machine. I haven't visited their site in a while. You'll need to disassemble the forks and measure things. Also if you have "cupped" type versus the flat type of damping rod then they won't fit. I'll have to dig up my old info and let you know.

Okay, I found the info on Race Tech site. www.racetech.com/articles/EmulatorFitting.htm

Its the cupped type of rod that works, not the flat type. If you have stock Z1 Forks you may be out of luck. You'll need late seventies forks to get the cupped rod.

Its on my to-do list for my project but its a tleast a year before I get the motor to where I want it....

Hope this helps...Sam

how about some wider triple trees from a cop bike and a set of forks from 76-80 900/1000 or a 650 from same era?thats how im doing mine.i dont see any need for a bunch of fancy stuff inside the forks..a good set of springs and some 30w synthetic oil and they will handle way more than the chassis will ;)

My frame will be braced this winter- using the Yoshi kit- that will stiffen the frame- I have cut them out myself from the original plans.

Where can we find a copy of these 'original plans'?

even with a braced frame you are gonna have a hard time over powering a set of kz forks.ive got as much if not more balls than anybody ive ever seen except lorcan:P ive done more borderline insane stuff than id even begin to remember on borderline streetable bikes and the front forks were always the least of my concerns.spaghetti frames and swingarms, junk stock tires, inadaquete(spell check:P )brakes ,junk shocks, high center of gravity were my biggest complaints;) unless you are riding like eddie lawson youll be okB)
