California's AFM Round 2 Infineon Raceway was created by CoreyClough
Well after all the changes for this season, and missing out on Round 1 due to something work-related, I finally started the season Round 2 at Infineon raceway with AFM. This is my second year racing, and eventhough I'm stil running the newbie yellow plate, I'm getting better every outing, and having a blast on the 1985 GPz550. Found 11 more hp, and 4 more ft. lbs. of torque just by adding a degreed set of Megacycle Cams (#478-60), and rejetting the CV30 Carbs. Finished top 10 out of more than 20 much newer bikes than I race on, and lowered my best lap time by a full second, even with a constant 10 mph wind. I wanted 3 seconds, but with the wind 1 was just fine...for this round.

The down side is my race weekend ended too soon, once I discovered my long lasting Avon AM23 Rear Tire had the cords showing on the left side. That explained why it was a little squirrely coming out of the long left-hander of Turn 6. Missed the last race of the day, and then a race on Sunday.

This video is of one of the practice sessions, as my min race I turned the camera to off instead of on. Sit back, crank up the volume, lean with me in the corners, and listen to the engine sing that sweet note.

Very cool! I'm trying to talk myself into AHRMA or something similar next year. We'll see - going for the weekend here at Road America in June and I'll get a feel for it. I've always wanted to race, but always thought cycle racers were nuts....now I'm getting the itch and it seems to be the cheapest way to play.

Awesome vid Corey, thanks. Congrats on your first top ten too! Any luck finding a new rear tire yet?

Thanks Gents!

The Avon Shipment hasn't arrived in Ohio yet, but when it does, I'll have a new rear tire on the way and will be buying a new front to go with it. Will be missing Round 3 because of this, but will make it to Rounds 4-7, ending the season in October 1-2 @ Thunderhill Raceway.

I have one of the races from this past weekend recorded, but need to trim it to fit on YouTube, as it's a little over the 15 minutes now allowed. Vimeo wont take it either.

This racing on an old bike is so much fun. DoubleDub, you need to give it a try, or at least do some track days to see if it's fun enough for you. The rush you get when the flag drops is nothing I can explain, you just have to experience it.

Are you running a belly pan or a bladder underneath?

It is a custom made belly pan I ran all last year, made it myself, but I'll have an AirTECH before too long. B)

Go-Pro Wide. Waterproof to 100 meters. The newer HD Go-Pro records much longer than the 2-hour max this 2 year-old camera. I like it.

Thanks.
I have a bunch of YouTube Videos under CoreyDSFA. I had to test the camera out somehow.

hei man

good to hear that you are doing well.

if i was you I would just get a BT45 rear (they are double compund) and race with it.

you need to have your hand slapped for not ordering a new tire earlier. race tires are NOT like road tires, you are not supposed to run them down till the thread is gone as the profile gets all fuXXd up way before that.

11 hp more? what kind of rwhp is it putting down now?

looking at that action pic, you rear end seems to sit VERY low IMHO.
