Hi All

Down to the last electrical issue of the winter season;

My "brake light failure indicator" is always lit up. Yet both the rear and front brakes properly activate the bake-light on the tail.

On the schematic, aside from the two switches that activate the tail light, there is a third switch in the circuit called the "Brake Light Failure Indicator Switch"

I cant find where this third switch is on the bike.

Can anyone point me to it? As well if you have any other pointers on this would be welcome...

Thanks
Chris

Here is the schematic. The switch I am looking for is on the left, about 1/2 way down

Here's a link to the color wiring diagram in KZr FILEBASE.
www.kzrider.com/filebase/search/finish/1-general/246-z1000a1

The brake light failure indicator switch is Part No. 28019-001

It's likely to be found underneath the fuel tank plugged into a connector from the main wiring harness.

Good Fortune! :)

I have confirmed the switch is bad. The replacements are obsolete, hard to find, pricy....

So I am thinking of making with this schematic.

Anyone tried to do that?

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration

Used electric parts can be a crap-shoot, but here's an ebay listing:

According to kawasaki.com, Part No. 28019-001 is used on 50 different Kawasaki models.

Good Fortune! :)

Yea... will cost me less than $5 to make one with new components, so ill have a crack at that first.

If it works, Ill add something on it in the Filebase.

Well I can say that circuit works

I inspected my soldering carefully then potted it in epoxy;

And it looks like this now;

Seems to do what it supposed to; flashes the indicator when the tail bulb is missing, and lights the indicator solid when the brake light is on.

Neato! What potting compound did you use? And is it pricy? I'll guess you already had some on hand or get it free from work or something? I've looked around for the stuff to make the loudhvx igniter but the prices have been a real bummer. :laugh:

Thanks. JMK.

I used "West System" epoxy with their 207 clear hardener.

Yea I have it around...literally consumed it by the gallon last summer to replace the stringers, frame, and deck in my old Glastron powerboat.

But it comes in smaller cans. Useful stuff.

I think for small jobs like this, a 20 min epoxy you buy at Home Depot would work...just needs to be thin enough to pour. Can cut it with a dash of acetone to thin it out. End result is a bit more rubbery; which probably is not an issue for potting stuff.

Cheers
Chris
