Have patience for and pity the slow, for they tremble at speeds that we so-well know.

Re: Bike cam
23 Feb 2020 14:58CHP was the agency that wanted to make lane splitting legal. Sothern California's traffic is so bad that when there is an accident CHP couldnt get to the accident scene with their cars but the moto cops could. The problem was in order to legaly lane split the moto cops had to use their lights and sirens while lane splitting. This created more problems cause idiot drivers would panic and make the congested traffic even worse. CHP's solution was if lane splitting was legal the moto cops wouldn't need to use the lights and siren while lane splitting. So they went to the legislature's and got the lane splitting law passed. The law makers and CHP did something right this time.urankjj wrote: OK. So why is it legal to split lanes and what is the point of doing so ?

Sorry Sir, but that's a pretty lame justification by the CHP to approve of a law that would put themselves and the motoring public, (including the motorcyclist) at further unneeded risk. To assume that the horrendous So-Cal traffic will yield to those vehicles is not reality . I have lived here in So- Cal for 22 yrs and still drive a commercial vehicle for a living...... Just my 2 cent's.

Why is it risky? I was a cop in California for 30 years. 10 of those years I was a motor cop. The only time I saw it risky was when some squid split lanes doing 65 mph in stopped traffic. When done at a reasonable pace and caution it's extremely efficient and safe. On a bike It's safer to lane split than be stuck between them.

If you go to the link I posted it shows the law has been tabled so now it's not illegal or legal. Back to where we were before. If done sanely it can be safer for the rider then being stuck in traffic. I did it for years until I left LA and never looked back.

Lane splitting isn't legal here in BC. So is riding on the shoulder in heavy lineups. But I shoulder drive...sometimes it was the only way to get through traffic around Vancouver.

I should have known this would happen. This is before I installed the new clutch actuator.

That shoulder looks really inviting!
