Mobil 1 4T price

Mobil 1 4T is over $11 at AutoZone. With a K&N oil filter and tax was over $65. WTF. 11 dollars for a quart of oil? Gold is cheaper.

That s why I started using Shell Rotella.

Sadly, their fully synthetic T6 is now only available in 5W-40 and 0W-40, but it is less than $20 per gallon. Their non-synthetic T4 is even less. Yes, it meets JASO-MA.

Talk about costing more than gold.. Check out what they charge for a small tube (.2 fluid ounce) of blue Loc-Tite. It.s about 8 bucks at NAPA for a dinky little tube of runny blue thread glue.

I often feel that >I< am in the wrong business. :-/

Like on the movie Fletch Lives, I was healed from my Mobil 1 Demons only a year ago, and made the switch to Rotella T4.

Be careful running synthetic oils in older vehicals with seals made long before synthetic was offered. It can ruin seals. On my 1997 F350 Ford, using synthetic oil in the transfer case will completely ruin it. They always talked of leaks from using synthetic oil, but had ideas of smaller molucules, ect, ect. Truth is it ruins seals that were not designed to be used with synthetic oil. That being said, $9.99 at walmart.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

No disrespect but do you have any citation with evidence that proves your assertion? Most "seals" on cars/bikes (even old ones) are made from high tech rubber blends and I'd be very surprised if synthetic oil in any way causes them to degrade.

I've read that synthetic oil can cause leaks because it has a higher degree of solvency, so it cleans away the gunk around old seals which then leak. I think I saw that in a Valvoline info page somewhere.

I use either Shell Rotella 15W-40 regular in the white bottle or Chevron Delo. Both typically go on sale for around $13 a gallon.

This is pretty much what I was taught in college too Martin. Also zed1015 posted something about synthetic oil's molecular structure was not right for roller type rod bearings a while back in KzR too. I don't remember the specifics of zed's post. Perhaps he can chime in. BUT.. going from my feeble memory my main instructor had a class on lubricants and in a nutshell said, if you run synthetics in a new motor that does not use oil or leak, it will continue to not use oil or leak. (Keep in mind this was at least 40 years ago when Mobil 1 was starting to experience wide spread use) .. BUT, if you take an engine that has always used dyno oil, leaks and burns oil.. it will leak and burn oil worse from the lower viscosity and higher solvency of the synthetics.
I have been using T-6, but am seriously considering switching to T-4 in my old kaw.

Even the press fit oil galley block plugs in the head are showing evidence of seepage / leaking. Notice the plug in the lower right of the pic. This was 2 weeks ago.

I run synthetic in a bunch of old and new cars, trucks and bikes and have never had a leak.
