Id like to put a dyna ignition or whatever is the least complicated ignition to put on these bikes. Has anyone done this and have opinions or info on it?

What are the symptoms that prompted the question? Poor ignition can be caused by either or all electrical, carb and mechanical issues.

I’m just trying to get ahead on it. It came to me as a skeleton so I got carbs from Ness for it and I’ve got the 4-2-1 exhaust for it. Now I wanna get the ignition set up for its best chances and do the wiring and it’ll be time to start it then it’s off to an engine builder/tune shop while I finish up the frame wheels and paint

The factory system is pretty bullet proof, but age and abuse can cause problems.

I would count on replacing the spark plugs. Stick with the factory recommendations, bought from a reputable dealer. There has been a rash of fake NGK plugs selling on the internet.
Visually inspect the coils and secondary wires. If you see cracks in either, or if the coils are swollen, or the wires are stiff, replace them. Once you get a new, fully charged battery, you can test for full voltage to the coils.  Corrosion slowly attacks connectors, wires and switches, and it will slow the flow.
The factory service manual for the civilian KZ1000, 1981-1983, will cover quite a bit of your cop bike, but it would be a good idea to keep searching the internet for the police supplement that covers the 2000 KZ1000-P19. The supplement will have the specifics for your exact bike.

I should really look at my manual before asking questions   no where in my manual does it show timing points

so pretty much I’m gonna get new coils, wires and plugs

sorry for a wasted thread
