Where to find Swing arm caps for a KZ550 1980 was created by pjx
I am trying to build a bika a n just running into small problems. Now where could I find swing arm caps. I tried to put the swing arm on and it has about an inch of space so i know someting is missing. I have diagrams and have been looking to see what is missing. So I think it is swing arm caps. Any one out there have an Idea?

im not sure about the 550 but on a 900-1000 there is no spacer for the swingarm pivot other than the dust caps and they are no where near 1"

This is from someone who has only worked on his own 650... so don't take this for gospel.
For your 1980 KZ550, Kawasaki.com shows only two items in both circled areas of your photo. #1 is an Oil Seal (PN 92049-1059) to keep the grease in the needle bearing assembly and in the swing arm tube space. #23 is a 34mm x 0.5mm Swing Arm Shim (PN 92025-1228) presumably to fill the gaps.
If that doesn't fill the gaps then we may be left with two possibilities. First, that you need more than the two shims shown or second, that #2, the swing arm component (PN 33001-1097), is not the one on your bike. Does either make sense to you? Could the previous owner have swapped the swing arm out for a different one?
Best of success!

Well Godsjester I know didn't screw me at least purposefully. Thanks for the blow up. I dont have any image that ever mentioned spaces in any of the manuals I have. I just couldnt find the caps. Also I know this is the correct swing arm and never was replaced. I saw this bike before he disassbmbeled it. the bike ran well. Thanks again I may b a motorcyclist this year.

Just for my own general knowledge... what do you mean by caps? Are they in the diagram? If so what # would they be. Thanks.

The kz550D doesn't have spacers there, but there are factory-available shims for that location. They didn't come on the bike, originally, but are available to take up the gap caused by wear. Most dealers don't have them, so I make my own. The gap should be less than 1mm, though.
If it's a large gap, I don't why it would be like that.
