Even with the bike in neutral, none of the gears are locked onto the output shaft, but they're all still spinning around it. There's a little friction in the bearings and whatnot and it's enough to cause the wheel to spin. No biggie.

Ok ill say it, is this your first bike?I had my bike on its center stand today while it was in neutral, and when I turned the throttle the rear wheel would turn - not very hard or fast, but the more I turned the throttle the faster the wheel turned. Is this normal, or does it mean there's something wrong with the clutch?

I guess free wasn't the best choice of words—I do have to pay for the advice by submitting myself to ridicule...which I'm happily willing to do.
