I'm looking for steering dampers for my KZ1000. There are plenty of dampers on the market, mounting them seems to be the tricky part.

So far the most straightforward system I've found is on Redline's website here: www.redlinecycle.com/Steering%20Damper.html

Anybody have other ideas or favorite dampers and mounting systems?

My KZ gets a little headshake under acceleration sometimes and I want to keep it under control.

Thanks, Mike

if u get head shake u should cure it before adding a damper. these bikes dont need dampers for the street. if u have headshake u have a problem. check the steeringhead bearings, swingarm bushings and tire balance first. i can take my 1200cc kz to the track and have no shake.

Tire pressure, front fork hardware tightness can also affect head shake at speed.

Thanks for the tips. I am going to change out the 16" mag on the rear for an 18" spoke wheel someday when I have time. I already have the wheel, just need to take it apart, clean and coat it, install the stainless spokes, etc.

When I'm working on that I can check the swingarm bushings and head bearings.

BTW the head shake is not very bad. Just a little wobble sometimes when accelerating hard. Tire pressure is 30-35 lbs each.

To start I have a lowered bike.
I had no problem till I changed struts to shocks and changed steering head bearings. It has new swing arm bearings, and I get a weave in my tail at high speeds.
I am going to add a steering damper and on a 79 kz1000 frame I do not see a good place to mount I am looking for ideas. I am thinking of top of valve cover with a custom mount, or a mount that will have to drill the frame. Help.

I cannot find the NHK mount for the valve cover? And the top damper in the link mounts to a z model that had a reflector.
Thanks it is a blast to ride.

Oh I thought I saw a reflector mount on yours. I just figured they all have it since the Z1 has it and my 650 also does.
