Not sure what you mean, you got the piston to go in but it won't clear the mounting bracket? The 2 bolts/ slides are out? Piston is in but not far enough? Shouldn't have to go in much, just enough to become loose on the Rotor. Maybe 1/16", a C-clamp over the caliper, against the back and the brake pad. Just apply a bit of even pressure. It should go in a bit.

Your rear brake is a bit different than I was thinking, but still should come off with the two #14 bolts removed. Do you have 6-9 removed?
Post up a picture of wear you are having trouble.

 Does this mean simply needing a method to support the rear tire off the ground without using a center stand??

Do you mean that the piston was seized in the caliper or that the caliper was seized on the bracket?

If it was the piston and you made it move after removing the caliper from the bracket and now the piston will not go back in far enough to remount the caliper, then I'd bet that crud is causing the problem. Did you remove the piston completely and carefully clean the parts and replace the seals? If not, that really needs to be done. A complete fluid replacement will also be needed.

If the caliper was seized to the bracket, then the caliper needs to be completely separated from the bracket and all the offending corrosion needs to be removed and some brake system approved grease needs to be sparingly applied to the sliding surfaces before reassembly.

the caliper will usually only come off off a front bracket in one direction, have you tried spinning it both directions to get it off?
if the piston wont go in any further maybe try removing brake line if you havent already B)

+1 on removing the brake line. You may also try opening the bleeder valve. I had to do this on my 750 when I first got it, and the bleeder valve released the pressure and allowed the piston to move back into the caliper so I could remove it to rebuild.

Anytime the caliper piston is pushed back into its bore, as for pad change, the bleeder should be opened. You want the old fluid, and the back pressure in the line to go out the bleeder, not back to and through the Master cylinder. Excessive back pressure can roll or cut the seal on the Master cylinder piston. Or just place a bunch of junk under the seal. As designed only a small amount of fluid gets returned through a small port, best to get all the old stuff out of the system.
Also while it doesn't apply to the KZ's, you don't want to send Muck into a Anti-lock Valve block, the solenoid valves may not like it.

Spray some PB Blaster into the caliper, let it soak a while. Then try some compressed Air to move it out again, against the rotor. More PB and waiting. Then try the C-clamp and pushing it in again.
