R1 swingarm fitting into KZ1000 was created by p.diddy2011
I know that everyone is doing it so I guess I'll jump in. I am new to building bikes but not new to riding. I currently have a 1984 KZ1000 that I like to "mono". I've purchased a 1999 swingarm, brake, shock, etc. Has anyone done this swap before utilizing a R1 swingarm. Advise?
Also what setup should I use for the front to have a low agressive stance. I'd like to have someone assist me do the front or $. iI've heard the triple tree has to be changed and something machined to fit. True or false? Advise?

Welcome to the asylum. You are correct about the front end. The kz stem needs to be installed on the new lower triple clamp, a process that is generally fairy straight forward. The monoshock mod will require more extensive fabrication. Spend some time with the search function on the forum and you will find several detailed threads on both topics.

I think I'm going to take a different direction guys. I have the opportunity to purchase a complete 1994 Zx 900. Will it be a good donor bike for my KZ1000 build? This is what theguy told me about the bike:
"I got the bike from a friend who rebuilt the whole bike polished everything and bike is bored out to a 1000 cc it needs the crank sensor and some wireing to be finish and fairings for the sides and back"
What do you guys think? I'll also sell other parts off the bike if anyone's interested.

I believe that the ZX9 and ZX7 share similar swingarms. There are a couple guys on here who have swapped to a ZX7 arm but they had to widen the frame as well.

Naiveté in grownups is often charming, but when coupled with vanity, it is indistinguishable from stupidity.
Tis better to remain silent and thought a fool - than to speak up and remove all doubt.
Did ever think that maybe you've been doing it wrong all these years?

I have an '00 ZX7 SA, I know the zx7 SA measures 10-3/8" at the pivot end... so its too wide.

I had an 03 ZX6 maichined down and bushings made to fit my KZ pivot bolt. I hear the zx9 swingarm is too wide.
Nice donor bike I need a deal like that. I am nickel diming myself to death on the small stuff.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think I read the ZX9 forks are a little longer than the zx6 also (which I would prefer)
check with Banshee on the R1 swinger he may know, looks like you have all the rest
i need a set of rearsets and a front end for mine.
Good luck keep sending Pic's

Ok, I think Im going to mock up the swingarm first then concentrate on my fork selection. Luckily the swingarm I've purchase comes complete. So no hunting for the small stuff.

@Ramtough_63...it was one of the best deals i ever made. Was going with mono conversion but think I'll stretch it 4 over and enjoy some engine power
