Shape of a TIRE GURU !!

I'm now pretty much convinced that I'm a direct descendant of Noah. Seems like it's always frickin' raining. :whistle:

So I need some Big Giant Head type of advice. I'm looking for a "vintage" style tire. A thicker profile would be nice, but I need something that will fit on the stock mag wheels.

I was going to go with Dunlop Qualifiers, Q2's, but after seeing some of the blackwall pics you guys have been posting, I'm starting to have a change of heart. I've spent a fair bit of time researching tires online, but there's just no substitute for the horse's mouth.

So c'mon Gurus, vintage-ish, good in the rain and compatible with the stock tubless mags. What's your fave?

I run Bridgestone spitfires. They used to make raised white letters which I prefer but 2 months ago when it was time for new tires I noticed they discontinued the raised white letter on the rear (18") any ways. I got a front raised white letter and a blacwwall for the rear.

You might like the looks of the current Dunlop K70 vintage series tires (see link). This is the same tread pattern that was on the Dunlop K70 tires that were original equipment on my 1963 BSA B40 (Star). They are about as vintage looking as you will probably find, but I am sure the actual rubber compound is improved for better grip, because the originals were hard as nails and the new ones feel much softer. Ed, I followed your link and plunked my model into the tire selector thingey, spat out the Elite3 Bias. High mileage, good in the rain blackwalls. Anybody know anybody that's heard of someone that knows a guy that maybe saw some once?

Sorry, I didn't notice your bike is an LTD. The front tire is no problem, but that 16" rear tire isn't available in the K70. Ed

Yeah Ed, that whole "Ltd" thing has definately made sourcing parts on this project a little more interesting on a few occasions.

These tires get very good reviews, and they come in the correct sizes for your LTD.

I had bridgestone spitfires which i had good luck with. then i went with bridgestone battlaxs i have put about 1,500 mile on them and i really like them and they have held up really well so far.

I have a set of Bridgestone Battlax tires on my 1000 LTD and cant say anything but great things about them. May see if Avon makes Venom tires for my next set just to keep it interesting.

Whoah, something new to ponder, those Battlax's look pretty sharp too...

I dont ride them much in the rain , but they do well when Im caught out in the rain and hold up well to high power passes and braking .
