Question about lowering links was created by Mullineaux
No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationSo I was looking through the parts box that came with my kz650 (which I've been steadily adding to) and buried at the bottom I fount a pair of lowering links. I've kind of wanted to give my bike more of a bobbed/custom look so it felt like my lucky day. Then I noticed something a little weird about them. The outside hole seems way bigger than the thread hole:

So I looked around a bit more and saw this image:

Which (barely) shows the initial neck of the bolt looking larger than threads. Do these take special bolts that sadly are no longer with the pair that I have? Are my eyes just playing tricks on me and they take normal bolts, or maybe they take something like z1 shock mount bolts like these:

Anyone have experience with these that can shed some light on my situation?

Well, I ordered up those bolts, and they didn't fit! So I went to the hardware store with one and started playing in the nuts and bolts section. Turns out they're 3/8-16. So $0.59 later I have the bolts for the links as well as a (unneeded) brand new set of lower shock bolts for my bike. Putting them on was super easy and it did bring the back end down. It also stiffened the shocks quite a bit. There's still some give to them but nowhere near as much as before, and you feel the road more. I did bounce on it a bit to make sure I wouldn't tare out the brake light wires on a bump. The links also make the back end feel more loose on corners. I've wondered what "wallow" feels like and I think I may have experienced it. On one right turn from a stop is felt like the back end had some sideways sponginess for a split second. It only happened once and I could get her to do it again. This is a bit of an experiment, I don't think it'll last long.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI don't think JC sells them anymore, I just looked quick over there. Luckily mine came in a box of parts with the bike. Just being curious I did some searches over the summer and saw some on ebay. Keep your eyes peeled. I will warn you, I've put some miles on the bike since I lowered it and I'm definitely taking the links off when I get the chance. They just make the ass end feel squirrely. That and they stiffen the crap out of the rear end, enough so that a few times some nice bump got me up out of the seat. If you just can't wait consider getting rigid struts, something like this:

I only get an inch of so of travel out the shocks after putting the links on anyways, and I'm a big guy. It might as well be a hardtail.
