KZ to R1 rear conversion - Chain and sprocket help

2010 R1 = 17/47 w/530 chain.
I am going to need a new kz front sprocket with an offset I'm guessing.. What should I go with chain size, 530, 525, 520, and what sprocket sizes for a normal final drive.
PS engine is overbore and supercharged.
Thanks.

I'm planning on going with a 19/45 combo as an initial setup on my 1428cc build. But I have a 18/40 on my stockish Kz1000. Both bikes have 17" rim conversions.

Ah, that's good info. I forgot about the wheel size differences too. So is 18/42 530 the same as stock w/630? I need to understand the differences in steps to make a decision. Then I need help with understanding the effect of dropping to a 6x17 rear wheel with a 190 tire.

190 rear tire 520 chain 18 front 41 rear
18/45 may be perfect
but les had a 1075 rocket sled if you guys manage to get your combination to compare his gearing
near perfect I'll let him disclose his secrets I dont fire it up and tell lol but he has a good starting point
chain is a 520 DID ER2 or 3 cant remember it has stretched a little but almost none compared to the level of abuse lol

Stock gearing on the KZ is 630 15/33 that's roughly 18/40 converting to 530.
The smaller the wheel, the smaller you go on the rear sprocket. Run a tape across both tires to get the diameter - then divide the smaller by the larger - this is how much smaller you want to make the rear sprocket to retain the same gearing. For example: 24" on the KZ and 23" on the R1 wheel, you end up with 23/24 = 0.958 = multiple 40 by .958 and you end up with 38T for the rear sprocket.
That's all assuming you plan on keeping the stock gearing.

18/38 is 2.1 FD
15/33 is 2.2 FD (stock)
19/45 is 2.37 FD
18/45 is 2.5 FD
Looking at these and everyone's comments I think the 18/45 @520 will be the best bet.

With 17" wheels the equivalent is 1.94 to one.
I run 530 pitch,5/8 offset with 19/40 gearing on my Drouin which works out slightly lower geared than std and rips my arms out on acceleration.
Going any smaller on the rear creates swingarm/chain clearence issues especially if using a deeper aftermarket swingarm.
Have a look at my Drouin build thread over on the Z1GB site for more info.

I have seen the offset countershaft sprockets. But... The 630 chain seems to have about 0.38" inches clearance to the 120/90/18 rear tire, and about 0.25" inch clerance to the frame...
I would like to go with a 5.5 inch rear wheel and a 190/55R17 Rear tire...
I can move the rear sprocket carrier 0.25" inch towards the center of the wheel... However, it seems like there is not enough room...
120/90R18 is 4.72" inches wide
190/55R17 is 7.28" inches wide
That is about 1.28" inches wider to each side..
Am I missing something???

Resurrecting this older thread (it has good information).
Im am stuck with the D&G 530 18T up front. So it I go 18/35 on a 17" tire would match stock but there is no way I can get away with that. The smallest R1 rear is 38 T. I wonder if the 38 will clear?
18/35 on a 17" = 1.94
18/38 = 2.11 +8% TQ
18/39 = 2.16 +12% TQ
18/40 = 2.22 +14% TQ (Fak! Thats going to be like 98tq roughly! - Top speed reduced to like 180-190kph.
What should I do here? If I need a 40 to clear the chain how buzzy will it be in 5th gear?

Later, Doug
I was going by zed's recalculated 17" math if you use the standard 18" kz math 18/40 is pretty much the same.
