Buy new and buy roller, it's a safety issue.

in which case could i use the race from the '81 frame? but seemed it would be very difficult to get it out without damaging it due to the lack of a lip on the inside.

motomadlin32 wrote: Ok thanks guys! So just curious did they change the bearing design from '80-'81 or did one of the previous owners of the '81 do the conversion at some point?
You made me curious since I also have a 1980 KZ750E1 so I checked Kawasaki.com Owner Info, Parts Diagrams etc and it looks like Kawasaki used the same bearing and same races on on pretty much all the 750s - twins included - from 76 to 84. .....Or to answer your question then it looks like Kawasaki did not change bearing design from 80 to 81.
The All Balls stuff is good quality. I've used it to replace my wheel bearings and am thinking about replacing the steering head bearings next season.
