My chain touches the floor . was created by Schmeck
So I bought this 96 link 630 chain along with a 32 tooth rear sprocket. The new chain fits the rear sprocket but on the front it can slide side to side . My current chain is 102 links or whatever stock is. The new chain is 96 links but clearly longer ( see pictures) then the original chain . New is gold old is rusty. They both seem the same width on inside but the distance between rollers is more on the new chain. Is my original chain a 530? The new chain is alot bigger considering it has orings and old doesnt. Anyone else run into this problem? btw chain in my hand is what came on the bike .

630 is 3/4" between pins.

530 is 5/8" between pins.

Chain widths should be the same, unless one has o'rings and the other doesn't, in which event the o'ring chain is wider.

Good Fortune! :)

The new chain is an oring chain but I went down 6 links and the chain turns out to be longer ? Is there a difference between oring chain length and non oring chain length?

O'rings don't affect chain length.

Perhaps the new 630 chain has more than 96 links.

For the 1979 Kawasaki KZ750-B4 at hand,
Z1 Enterprises lists 106 link 530 for KZ750 twin:
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...&item=LA530XSOZ1-106

106 link 530 is 66.25" long

102 link 530 is 63.75" long

96 link 630 is 72" long

88 link 630 is 66" long

89 link 630 is 66.75"

To get length of a 630, multiply the number of links times 3 and divide by 4.
Example: 96 x 3 ÷ 4 = 72

To get length of a 530, multiply the number of links times 5 and divide by 8.
Example: 106 x 5 ÷ 8 = 66.25

Good Fortune! :)

A 630 doesn't fit onto a 530 sprocket (doesn't mesh).

Yes :cheer: -- and the decimal equivalents 3/4 = .750 and 5/8 = .625 make it easier to determine number of links in a chain without having to individually count the links.

Examples:

A piece of 630 chain is 72" long.
How many links does it have? (No counting allowed.)
72 ÷ .750 = 96

A piece of 530 chain is 72" long.
How many links does it have? (No counting allowed.)
72 ÷ .625 = 115 (rounded from 115.2)

Meanwhile, the individual link counters in the other room have to keep starting over and over again because they lose count  somewhere around link number 42 -- or was that 43 ?

Good Fortune! :)

It's a little difficult for me to understand what you are trying to do or why you would buy a 630 chain for your bike. Have you made a bunch of mods? The stock chain for the KZ750 twin is 530 with 106 links, the stock rear sprocket has 38 teeth and the stock engine sprocket has 16 teeth. Is there a reason you don't want to use components that adhere to the stock specs? Ed
