Stretching a shaft? was created by Serpent7
I was looking at my KZ the other day and was wondering why I can't find anyone who has stretched a shaftie? It would seem kind of easy, only needing another shaft swing arm, and lengthening the actual drive shaft. The rest would be minor. Has anyone done it here? How complicated can it be? Am I missing something? Just wondering....

I suppose you could chop a drive shaft and housing and swingarm in half, weld in however much pipe and rod you needed. It's finding a talented welder or a shop with a good robot. These days, my money's on the robot. (that's a joke)

Also, seems like you'd have to machine up an adapter to go between the wheel and drive flange, since the swingarm would be wider. You'd run into a limit of how long the swingarm could be, unless you also move the PTO outwards. At that point, you're doing major re-engineering and the expense soon becomes untenable.

Sometimes, I have what I think is a great new idea, and then I ask myself why somebody else hadn't already made it work.

Do some searching for V-Max extended arms. I've seen both 3" and 6" version on the V-Max websites and they're shaft driven. I'm not sure exactly how its done but they do it quite frequently. Costs are $500+ though and I don't know if that includes modifying the driveshaft itself.

Thanks guys! I'm actually going to attempt it in the next year, or two. I want to get some riding in, and concentrate on a few other easier upgrades. However, I will attempt it, and will post my results on this site. It just doesn't seem all the difficult to me, and was wondering if I am missing something. The major work that I only see is the cutting and welding go the actual driveshaft, and swing arm, right? I have access to a really good, inexpensive, oldshool style, machine shop, so I'm not worried about those two issues. Was wondering what else would be involved?
