I've always wondered what this weld nut was for. I thought it might be for the air box or tool tray or something like that, but I've had several completely stock motorcycles now and have never seen it used for anything. I brought it up in my project thread but wanted to expand it since it seems to be a mystery. Some ideas tossed around have been: used to secure motorcycle or parts in the crate during shipping, chassis ground, used on assembly line......does anybody know for sure? it's located right near the fuel tank strap, basically between the seat and the tank, slightly offset to the right.

Wow, that's a new one. That makes me wonder if the weld nut is used for something on the European model? Might require two horns or different horn placement?

My A2A was American built? Nebraska.

Where the wires for the horn are on the wire harness, puts the horn at this bolt.

I'm thinking the parts still came from Japan....do they have different frames for the European versions?

As far as your horn being there, having the wires there sure makes a good argument for it being factory. I wonder why some are there and some are not though? All of mine have been mounted up front below the steering neck.

This was for 1976 KZ900's that had the hazard switch for the 4 way flashers. It had this small type of rectifier to hold extra juice for the 4 ways it is aluminum and would help it cool down if you had the hazards on for long period of time. That hole in middle used the 6mm bolt to secure it to the frame.
I don't have a manual in front of me to copy a pic.
But I do have this part. 1 red power and 2 brown wires, they went to the 2nd small flasher unit.
They must have kept in the production going on up into years.

Went thru 25 of these in 40 yrs.

If this is true then did the 76 kz frames have them as well?
What are the differences in thickness between the 73 frames and the 76-80 LTD frames?
inquiring minds need to know.

Well this is a puzzle, becouse the KZ 1000 A2A wiring harness has the 2 brown wires at the right place, just before the bracket with said bolt.

The three wires for this thingamagig kinda makes sence in a way now.

The harness does have brown and brown/white.....cant remember if there is a red but pretty sure NO RED.

Good question though, a 6mm bolt hole is kickin our azzes......LOL
