02 KZP short-reach clutch/brake levers? was created by ninefourteener
Good afternoon,

My 19 y/o daughter has recently attended a riding course, and I'd like to let her practice/learn on my kzp.

With that..... the clutch is really stiff for her... so I'm going to oil the clutch cable and see what happens.

But the bigger problem.... is that the levers are so far away from the grips, that her tiny fingers can barely reach the levers, without dramatically adjusting the position of her wrist... which is dangerous.

There are a MILLION different aftermarket levers.... so I'm hoping someone here has had success with one, or can recommend a specific solution based upon my needs.

Maybe an oem part from another specific model?
Maybe a specific aftermarket part?

Thanks in advance!

I have one on my Z1 clutch perch. It's starting to wear out and I've always wanted to have a matching one for the brake. Chaparral has hundreds of them and I've been meaning on taking mine off to match up. They all don't mount the same so you have to pay close attention to that.

Thanks.... I've never heard of a "power clutch" assembly. So..... the lever is actually closer to the grips?

The clutch feels perfectly fine to me. There's nothing "wrong" with it..... but for her, it's hard to reach and stiff.... so I'm trying to figure out a solution to make it easier on her.

Besides the possibility of a differently shaped lever, the previously posted suggestions have for many riders made the lever operation much smoother and far less stiff.

On my KZ900 LTD for example, the clutch lever action had degraded gradually enough to go virtually unnoticed. I had become accustomed and adapted to it, and it still felt okay -- I had forgotten what "perfectly fine" actually felt like. Lubing the cable helped somewhat, but when the old hard grease-encrusted clutch actuator assembly was disassembled, cleaned and freshly lubed, it was like the difference between night and day.

But where everything else is perfect except for a dry cable, simply lubing the dry cable should help.

As known, here's a quick and easy method to thoroughly lube a cable:

For the clutch actuator assembly, would lube with fresh grease -- not a sprayable lubricant.

Good Fortune! :)

Thanks.... will do. Oiling the cable isnt a problem. I'm doing research as we speak on a lever set that will specifically fit my bike.

On my monthly trek to my daughter's I'm going to drop by Chaparral to get some chain lube, filter oil and look at the levers. I'll take a clip of them. B)

Cool...... thank you!

I found a seller on ebay that has a "power" clutch lever, with finger slots..... "specifically" for a kzp of my year.

I just wrote him to see if he has a matching brake lever too. If so.... I'll likely snatch them up.

Good morning everyone,

After an exhausting search.... both here in the forums, as well as just about every motorcycle parts retailer I could find...... I've come to the conclusion.....

That there is no definitive solution for a set of power levers for a kzp..... at least none that are listed..... anywhere.

Does ANYONE have an answer. Are the levers on my 02 KZP the same as any earlier models? Perhaps I can search forca different model?

Has anyone had any specific success installing power levers on a kzp? Specific brand? Part number please?

There are dozens of threads right here in this forum on this topic..... and they are all dead-ends with no answer.

Frustrated..... need help please :(

A pic of your levers off the bike may help. Mine I have a non stock M/C and a stock clutch perch. On my way home tomorrow I'm stopping by Chaparral, take mine off and compare them with what they have on the racks. If you can take a pic of both of them side by side, I can print it out to compare. Might have to do away with the clutch interlock switch but I'd get rid of it anyway. If there's a match you can order on line. In the mean time you can call them.
