Rear Brake Master Cylinder Rebuild Kit ? was created by kzdcw
Does anyone make a rear brake master cylinder rebuild kit for my 77' KZ1000A ? Just fine tuning my "Running" KZ and the rear master cylinder weeps a little brake fluid out the piston bore. I took it apart before and really cleaned everything including the rubber seals but still weeps a little brake fluid. There didn't seem to be a rebuild kit before when I did this? The rear brake works fine though.
Could a person adapt another rear brake master cylinder using the same mounting bolt locations and brake pedal rod? Looked at other rear master cylinder set-ups having a remote brake fluid reservoir but didn't know how everything else would line up?

I'm not sure if the 1000 and the 650 share the same rear MC or not but I've been watching this rebuild kit

Better inspect the master bore for pitting before spending money on a kit.

I've had the master disassembled before and looking inside the bore, I couldn't really see any pitting? Cleaned the piston assembly and primary cup real well with acetone ( hoping to swell the rubber a bit ) and then re-assembled it using brake fluid. Still weeps brake fluid at the bore? If the bore needs a little cleanup, how would you address that without compromising the bore diameter that much?
Z1 Ent. doesn't have the rebuild kit in stock, with no ETA.
Rebuild kits for later rear masters that have a remote fluid reservoir are available.
If the mount spacing of these later masters are the same as my current master, couldn't you just one on these masters? Probably the brake pedal piston rod would have to be fabricated?
Any ideas on if this application would work? I'm assuming these masters have a 5/8" bore like my 77' ?

Ed, Saw that. Way to much money !!! I think probably all I would need is the piston assembly and primary cup which both of these would be the "rubber" parts that are probably causing the brake fluid weep? Your thoughts on that.
I don't Know if Redline sells them, but lists these parts separately. Would be !/2 the costs of the above.
Maybe someone on the Forum has a rear Non-Leaking Functional Unit they would be will to sell ? Please chime in if you do.

It could be just the rubber bits. Check eBay to see if you can find them individually. Ed

I am sure you could source a non bike rear MC. It may need a fabbed bracket. Also I was having trouble finding the rubber grommet for my 1000ST that goes on the push rod and snaps on the master. The Sportster MC grommet needed to be drilled to accept the larger diameter KZ push rod, but other wise was a perfect fit to MC. R

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationIf you can find a different master that hooks up to everything that may be the least expensive way to fix the problem. Regarding the cup, the diagram for the KZ1000-A1 is shown below, and there appears to be a cup for sale on eBay at Ed
