Mag Wheel Swap was created by Kiddynamite8
No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHi guys. I really like the look of the mag wheels on the KZs.
I currently have an 18" spoke wheel on the rear and would like to switch it to a 16" mag. Is the attached rim a direct swap? Just add the brake drum and mount it up?
Thanks for the help.

Seems like a pretty straight forward swap, but at the very least, you will need the bearings and spacers that go with the wheel.

do you know if the brake drums are the same size?
I'll check Z1 to see if they carry the bearings and spacers.
Thank you.
and would switching from the 19" to a 16" throw off the speedometer? Or would the overall diameter still be the same?

Are you still talking about the rear wheel? The 650B came stock w an 18" Rr.
The speedometer is driven by the front wheel & the rear wheel has no effect on that.
Partzilla has diagrams with cross-reference. I think the same brake shoes are used on all 650s with a drum brake.
Replace old old old brake shoes as they can fail & lock the rear wheel.

I apologize, I meant switching from the 18" rear to a 16" rear.
Well I ordered the wheel off ebay, so we'll see how it pairs up.

If you don't know the age of your brake shoes, replace them. The adhesive that binds the linings to the shoes can fail over time, so a lining can separate from a shoe then get jammed between the shoe & drum, locking the rear wheel. It happened to me, so it does happen. Also, if the drum lining is in poor condition, that may affect braking >> the EB wheel doesn't look that great.
I sanded my drum lining very carefully & evenly w 100 grit to remove some glazing. Other than that, it was in good condition.
Asbestos warning: do not breathe the dust. I took various common sense precautions.

One question I have is that the 18" sprocket side has 6 bolts holding it on, the 16" wheel seems to have only 4?
Will this work?

That's not the same wheel as the EB listing above. It looks like a disk brake wheel & the 4 bolts would hold the disk. The other side would be for the sprocket carrier stuff.

That's a different wheel. possibly from a 650SR with Rr disk brake.
