2K paint on the brake disc. was created by gordone
I`m planing to upgrade the brakes (cosmtic).

1. take of the disc brake and have some phosphoric acid to remove the correction outside the zone bere the disc pads is working.
2. Paint the disc brake (out side the brake pads zone) with 2K top coat paint.
3. Use new stainless steel bolt when installing the brake disc again.

I understand the phosphoric acid is making a good base to paint on so will just have 2K clear top coat over.

My question is, will a normal 2K top coat be okay with the temperature on the brake disc?

I don't know, but probably not. You'll probably need a high temp product. Eastwood sells a 2k engine paint.

I would clean & polish the disks. not paint. not phosphoric acid.

edit: I wouldn't use phosphoric acid if not painting. phosphoric acid etches the surface, so if you don't paint, it will rust faster & might make the surface look bad before it rusts.

Why not ?
I`m only planing to paint the area where the pads is not working, I was hoping to get almost "maintenance free" disc brake by doing these :)
I sandplasted the disc 2 years ago and now they have started to show light corrosion (where the pads is not working).

Here's a picture of new KZ650-C1 discs. Notice where they are painted and where they are not painted. Cleaning the unpainted portion should take less than 1 minute per year, so why paint that portion? Ed

Discs should not get that hot under normal riding conditions.
Unless your road racing on a course or stopping after a 150 mph 1/4 mile pass at the dragstrip.
I just sold one I painted with automotive clear coat (2K).
You should separate the 2 parts, glass bead the aluminum carrier.
clean the disc. Keep it waxed, (not on pad surface) and it should not rust.
This is what I just did:

Livin in "CheektaVegas, NY
Went thru 25 of these in 40 yrs.

Phosphoric acid is fine fine for derust and clean. It creates an ideal surface to paint over. And that Brake Gray paint should be fine.

Agree :)
My understanding is that the acid make a good surface (no need for primer).

My orginal plan was to paint the area where the bolts is located, please see picture below.

But maybe I shall mask and paint everything that the brake is not touching.... maybe that looks niceer ?
hem...

I assume the brake pads will just wrap of paint if it has come some pain on the "zone" where the pads is working ?
Mask as good I can...

Still need primer. The phosphate retards rust in steel but it's not primer.
