spray on bed liner

4 years after it was stolen my baby my klr 250 (sorry i do own a kz1000-p too) was returned to me. but of course its in really bad condition, the seats torn, handle bars bent etc. but the worse is they painted the thing badly with metallic spray paint, so I am considering covering all the plastics with line x, rhino liner, or some of that knock off stuff you can do yourself that comes in a aerosol or liquid. has anyone ever done this? would it just chip off the plasic fenders? I think if I could get it to work it would look really cool, especially with a new jet black seat.

never heard it done but it may be a cool rat look. try it.

anything has to be better than metallic turquoise rattle can, although i havent actually seen the bike yet, i am out of town and my family picked it up.

but i agree it could have a stealthy rat rod, what ever you want to call it look, especially with some minature led blikers and removed side panels.

Hi I haven't sprayed the plastic but I did do the inside of the headlight can and under the front fender. i used the spray rubberised bedliner from walmart. It did a good job but it gets harder the longer is sets. After a couple of months it is real hard and works good.

I don't know if you have looked at the new krylon spray that bonds to plastic.

I have had good luck with rattle cans. You have to put several light coats on then get wetter on the last couple of coats. You neet to watch the suface and move fast enough and put enough paint on so you keep the paint looking wet as you move. The overlapping strokes have got to wet blend to the previous painted area.
The paint will still not be gas resistant though.

the bikes going to be off road in the brush, so im afraid paint will just scratch right off thats why im considering the bed liner.

not too sure about using the bedliner type stuff on plastic - it does get more brittle with curing. Might try the spray on "plasti-dip" tho - that is supposed to stay flexible. doesnt have the texture to it, but might suit your needs better than the bedliner stuff.

i tried a rattle can bed liner that i found at Auto Zone, on the frame for my new 400, i was pretty disappointed with the results. i wanted something like what i saw in truck beds, what i got was pretty smooth and very delicate (scratches off real easy) if you want it good i would say to go talk to a place that does trucks and see if they would do your stuff for you.

Hahaha, I wish I could take credit but it's not my bike. It belongs to a guy in my riding club.

now thats what i'm talking about, bitching looking, do you know what type of liner he used how much it costs etc?
