interchangable parts?
15 Oct 2007 22:52
hiya. New '80 kz750 LTD owner here.
So, I was wondering how interchangeble the bits on this bike are with others in the KZ line.
Specifically, the seat and maybe fenders.
If I ever talk my wife into goin with, the 2 place couch would probably be nice but outside of that I think it looks pretty gay. Is there a flat seat that will bolt on in it's place? On ebay I found some 650 and 900 seats I liked, and corbin lists the 1000 and 900 seperatly.
The other eyesore is the fenders... mine has the big chrome ones. I'd kinda like to go for the monochrome look and some shorter black fenders... any options?
OK, my first day of ownership and I should keep it simple. Appreciate any advice and like the site, Thanks!!

Cool ... I own a 80 kz750LTD too. I like my big ol' seat !!! It's quite comfy for me and any passenger I might take ... and I like my chrome fenders too ... but hey ... everyone likes different stuff.
Sorry but I really can't answer your question ... but have one of my own ... will the earlier style speedo and tach from a KZ1000 work on my 750? I really think that the 85mph speedo is rediculous !

Kawasaki.com has all factory part numbers and can show you which bikes share the same part numbers!

Yep, but that just tells you what bikes use identical part numbers, not what will fit.

Hello,
I'm not going to be of much help either, new '80 KZ750H owner myself. But if you are planning on getting rid of parts don't throw them out! I know there are people around searching for them. I'm rebuilding my bike currently (From a wreck back in may). Great motorcycle in general from my limited experience.
Cheers!

I think what he wants is a different seat that would bolt up to a KZ750 so that would be a different part number. As to what will bolt up, my guess after all these years is a KZ750LTD seat is the only one that will bolt up. Not to say other seats won't work, but there will be modifications necessary. How much modification is impossible to say without trial and error. Can get a little expensive.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

I think the KZ750H tach and speedo are mechanical, I know the ones on a KZ750E are.
The early (pre 1981) gauges are taller than the later 1000's, and taller than the 750's, I'm not sure if they are a straight bolt on or if modification is needed.
My point was that the parts diagrams will tell you what bikes use exactly the same part, they don't tell you what else will fit.
A 1980 KZ750G seat/side covers/tank/etc has different part numbers than the 79 KZ750B uses, but they do bolt on and work.
There is no way you can positively determine that by using the parts diagrams, you either have to hear it from someone that has done it, or try it yourself.
Hence the great resource that is known as KZR
If Ron tells you something will or will not work on a 650, better not bet against him

at this point I just would like to find out if theres any flat seats that will swap onto the 750. I saw some 650 and 900 seats I liked but don't know if they'll work.
