I must have missed something. What do you mean about, "$700 and it still looks like crap?" How'd you dump $700 into the paint?
anyhow, if you have a good section of paint anywhere on the tank, where you can polish it up shiney, take it to a PPG paint dealer, they will have a prophet mouse, that reads the paint, and gives them a mixing formula. post the mixing formula, for PPG single stage A/E and I can get you rattle cans of it. I think it's like $14 a can for rattle cans, but it's worth it, to have an exact paint match. Or, the PPG dealer might be able to put it in rattle cans for you.
Hope this helps.

after he broke his leg, and max gets to the station early, the goose is riding a triple two stroke in circles with a cast on his leg.
john68, i will def. do that when i have a chance, i'll send a message. well, i thought the $700 dollars i spent would go farther than it did, the engine is great, i installed new piston rings, gaskets, tune up kit, new michelin rear tire, mac exhaust, new plugs and wires, new rear sprocket, carb kit and more, it added up real fast and i haven't done any cosmetic improvements yet.
----thanks to everybody here, you guys are great.

i emailed reproduction graphics.com with a pic of my bike to find where i can get that red stripe, and he said that my paint job wasn't original, so, i'm wondering what was original?, how can i find out? if possible i want to go back orig. and i'm thinking maybe all the 77s were that maroon color

Do some sanding.
chances are, if someone repainted it, they didn't strip everything down to the bare metal, so underneath that blue, there must be another color. Do some sanding in a few spots and see. Under the tank, on the sidecovers, underside of seat cowl... Those are good hiding places. Or, check the overspray on the backside of your sidecovers. If you still can't figure it out, post a close-up pic of the backside of the sidecover.
We'll git-r-done,

Cratgo:
The 1977 KZ750 B models came in two colors that year; the first is seen in Sixgun's picture below...the second is a maroon/red, probably similar to the 1977 Z1000 A model paint scheme. I seem to remember the most common version sold was the red edition.
