Well back at it again. Not only did the goat scratch my paint, it was cracking, a big chip came off too. I think the primer failed.
For the last couple months off and on I've been stripping, priming, sanding and put color on the spare tank. It's been a couple days. Got some more sanding to get the fine blemishes out, wet sand then color and clearcoat. I'm taking my time this time. Good thing I have a spare tank.
The sun is so intense out here and it gets very cold too. Very hard on paint. :pinch:

Taking my time I wet sanded it and took out the small imperfections. All was going well until I put on the clear coat. I guess I'll have to live with it while I strip down the other one. It has less dents so I'll try the freeze method to take them out. This tank has a lot of filler in different places, the paint was hard as a rock so I figured it would last. I figured wrong.

Always take it to bare metal (if possible), then build up fresh.
Spend money and get good materials like epoxy primer and urethane clear. Painting is too much work to cheap out on crappy materials.
As far as taking your time is concern, you can't. Each paint has a critical recoat time frame and you should hit each window. If you wait too long the paint cures too much and the next layer won't bite in the way it should. For example: epoxy primer typically much be top coated in a few days, then base coat must be clear coated within a day or so. After the clear you can relax though. Even if you want to color sand and add more layers.

If I had gone to bare metal it would have turned out well. I will on the next one.

Did you have to re-educate your goat?

When I come over he goes on the chain. I don't understand animal people. The goat climbs on cars, she's got dogs and cats, horses boarded, and wonders why she's single.

In my last clip of the tank you can just hear the chopper coming in the background. More to it but I'll leave it there.

Wet sanded the goat scratches out but then got a reaction in the paint. Has to sand it all down to the plastic. I think it's the clear coat so this time I put on some color and in a couple weeks I can finish it. I'm starting to think about lamb chops again.

Lamb chops? Shouldn't that be goat chops?
