If not already done, would highly recommend taking a motorcycle rider safety course.

Hello, TJ, and WELCOME to KZr!

Good Fortune!
EXACTLY what I was going to say. In my opinion, this course should be strictly mandatory for anyone applying for a motorcycle permit or license. Definitely check it out.

First Bike Ever... Any advice?
Always wear a helmet, gloves and a jacket. Keep your head on a swivel, expect that 100% of everyone does not see you, check your mirrors religiously, don't flip off cagers if they don't see you (they are bigger than you in their cars), don't ride in California, and remember there are 2 types of riders: those who have crashed and those who will.
That being said, enjoy the hell out of yourself too!
