Back in the day I had a cherry 1971 Blue H1 and a 1975 Maroon H1 also in perfect shape. Then I got tired of rebuilding melted center pistons. In 1981 I bought a 1975 Z1. I did custom paint, seat, valves and rings back in 1981...yea, an oldie.. let's not do the math please. I'm in the process of getting the 900 respectable again. These bikes were (are) Kings and deserve to run.
These forums are great. When I first did my bike the only place you could get any info was from the dealer, occasional mag. article, or like minded guys who tried things. We had guys with big motors, external distributors and even a Z1R with a blower (not a turbo)on it. Some crazy stuff for the times.
Each year we would take a run to the Bryar Motor Sport Park in Loudon, NH. No one owned a trailer. It's now the NH Motor Speedway. Back then it was, let's say a bit more rustic. We would camp out on the back straight (Animal Hill) for the weekend. I need to find some of my pictures to post. I remember the Kawasaki Superbike School, Eddie Lawson sitting in the pits with the Japanese mechanics who couldn't speak any english. That wasn't common to see back then. Wes Cooley, Wayne Rainey.... The side car races. And of course the maniacs on Animal Hill. All good memories and looking for more.

Love that 1000 too. I got to get a set of those billet exhaust rings when the time comes. The cleanliness is killing me.
I used to get all kinds of comments on my bike when I finished it in 1982. It was actually not that common to see them with custom paint and it was clean. I split the cases and painted the engine black. I forget the brand paint but it's still on there even if its a bit rough now. The Kerker with the comp baffle turned heads everywhere it went. Especially when there would be like 10 of us roaming the streets. The painted cylinders .... I'm not sure if I still like them but it does still grow on me when I look at it. Makes the engine look like it has more than it actually has in it. lol. But personally the radical look can be taken too far for me now. I'll have to mull it over as I go. I originally got the idea while at the Dealer picking up parts. They had sent an engine out to someone who pumped it up. Back then there must not have been that many places that did it. It was sitting there all painted so I did the same thing.
