Hi my name is Mike and I’m located in Central Washington State. I've purchased a low mileage and completely stock 1976 KZ900A-4 (looks to be a Japan bike) that’s been sitting in a garage since about 1980. I’m excited to get to work and utilize the knowledge on the site. Thanks!

Welcome aboard! Sweet bike. Lots of 900 owners here and they are very knowledgeable. First thing first is to get a service manual and give it a good wash, she will look already awesome. Look around, you’ll find a downloadable manual or someone will post one.

Welcome from SouthEast Michigan. I love an original survivor. Everything looks intact. Great find, almost jealous. The factory luggage rack and highway bars are of extreme interest to me. I’d love a closer look at the mounting hardware. If you decide to remove them I’d like the opportunity to haggle on a price. A good wash and some maintenance and you could be riding that jewel in a jiffy.

There isn’t a FSM digitized on this forum yet. I have one but I don’t have the knowledge to upload it. The latest version I know of is dated March 28,1977. Revision 6. Part number 99997-700-07

Welcome to the fun!  That is a great find you have there.  I live in Seattle, good to have another from Washington among us.there are others here, but do not ask me to name them as I would fail on that test greatly.  I ride a 650 so will not be able to provide any real info for you.  But there are many on the site who will be able to provide very useful info regarding your machine. I look forward to following your progress with it.

Welcome!

If you don't already have them, invest in JIS screwdrivers, and bits if you're using an impact driver.  Although they look almost identical, American Phillips screwdrivers don't fit JIS cross-head fasteners correctly & will damage the recesses.

Great find.  Underseat pics please?

Just picked the bike up. First time seeing in person. It's better then I was expecting. All stock and appears to be all there.

That is perfect. A true time machine. Without seeing under the seat I can’t say it’s 100% there, but man it’s a one of a kind find. Please do not restore it. Clean it up, detail it, do all necessary mechanical repairs and document all of it. Were you bought it, who you got it from, what you replaced. Keep all of the originals. And only replace with NOS, it is worth it. That is truly a rare find. It should clean up amazingly. I see almost no rust on the rims and spoke nipples. I can see the shine on the tank paint peaking through. Pull the plugs and squirt some marvel mystery oil in the cylinders while your going through the maintenance stuff. Do not get in a hurry to true it over.

Holy Guacamole!! Pard, You should go buy lottery tickets! I'm wondering if while your rubbing on it if a genie pops out. Ive seen alot of anguish from alot of people trying to clean and still have factory finish on all the parts, They dont make cleaning products like they used to, Its mainly the reason there are a lot of do overs over the years and I might add, Its only oridional once. Happy trails to you!
