Hi Everyone, my name is Tobin and I live on Saltspring Island, BC, Canada. Just acquired a 1978 KZ650 and have been going through it getting it ready for the road this spring. I have restored and ridden a number of motorcycles over the years, mostly European. Current fleet is Norton, Triumph and Guzzi. Fairly limited experience with Japanese multicylinder bikes but did briefly own a Honda CB400F about 6 years ago and a couple of Honda 750's about 35-40 years ago. Looking forward to learning more about Kawasaki!

Welcome to the forum. There's a few of us from BC here and a wealth of information about your bike. Is it running? Photos always help. Make sure you click "Insert all" before you post any photo and it will show up in the body of the post full size.

Welcome! Be sure to buy a Kawasaki Service Manual (not a Clymers, etc.) for your bike's exact year and model. Even though many different year KZ650 bikes look alike there are serious differences in their charging systems, etc., so be sure to get the one that will cover your bike's exact year and model. Ed

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Welcome from Chase, near Kamloops! I'm also rebuilding a KZ650 but I don't know if it will be ready for spring. As suggested, get hold of a 650 manual and check out the Partzilla site for great parts diagrams. This is not my first Kawasaki. I also have a Z1B and a KZ1000. PM me if you have any questions.

It looks good! Nice sound too. What exhaust is that?

Looks and sounds great. I sure wish we were near riding days. I've still got a foot of snow in some spots. I'm in the Kootenays, at Windermere. Saltspring has such a terrific climate!

Been out riding a bit and it runs really well. Very different from my twin cylinder bikes!! A bit surprised at how well it runs since I haven't put a strobe on it or done a vacuum synch on the carbs yet. Only mechanical synch on the carbs after rebuild so far.
Not sure what kind of exhaust it is. No markings anywhere. Header pipes all come together at one point and the exhaust system clears the oil filter housing and drain plug. Any ideas?
