He's talking about shocks; the ones that have the resevior located outside of the shock-body itself (superior for cooling). Here is an example of a 'factory' offering; this is a Zephyr shock on my 750, note the resevior separated from the body of the shock in a way that it looks like it's riding "piggy-back" on the shock-body itself.

A set of these 750 Zephyr shocks just went for US$142 on eBay...I was watching...but, alas, not buying.

Dude, I saw that!!! I'd never give that for a set of these. Don't get me wrong; they're better than stock...but not $150 better...well, maybe they are...but if I was going to drop that much coin I'd go ahead throw some more cash on that pile and pop something really good.

BS34 are with Wired George now. Need to get the cable and throttle assembly cleaned up as it's a single cable pull.

Purchased a used Bridgeport from a friend with a programmable DRO. He also set up a phase converter for me so I don't have to place a two phase motor on it. Now it's time to make room and rearrange the garage. Get the power set up for all the gear and compressor.

We were talking about what it costs these days to DIY. Nothing is cheep these days. Even materials and tooling for projects have to be considered, where as in the past it was an after thought.

I'm with BK on this one. If I'm going to drop more cash for parts it's going to be something new in this case. What has yet to be determined.

Not much to report other than some highlights.

Still riding the bike as it stands for some runs through the local foohills... It's a blast at speed. In town it's a beast, but I'm getting used to it. Looking forward to see if the BS will tame it a bit in town net me some control at low end.

Had a day to rewire the garage for the phase converter and compressor with some additional 110 receptacles. The big compressor is now online and I'm ready to fire up either welder and the phase converter/Bridgeport leg when I need them.

My friend helping was bitten in the lips by my dog in the middle of the project. Dude took some band-aids and pulled his face together to help finish the job. I wanted to take him in for a few stitches. He was having none of it. He's not blaming the dog, but I still feel bad.

Lesson learned... The dog is now tagged as a biter. Now I have to stay on top of him with my 4 year old. But of course he knows her, problem is they look eye to eye, have to get back on top of reminding him I'm the top dog in the pack.

Made some progress. Placed the BS carbs on today. BTW thanks to Wired George for a painless transaction. Clean units that are better than I would hope for. :)

It runs. Big difference in drive ability as suspected.

Screwed up on the initial fuel plumbing and placed feed to the vent lines. That was a mess.

Flipped it and all was well. Kicked myself in the ass a couple of times... Opened another beer. ;)

In 1st and 2nd it seems to bogs at 5k. Can short shift through these two and have no issue as mix in all other gears it seems ok, so far.

Will have to get used to the minimal throttle pull compared to the RS. Also the mushy throttle response with the diaphragm. Have to retrain my wrist. ;)

Spent a majority of the time mapping the 82 Gpz and 91 Zephyr Throttle switches/wiring. Wanted to be sure first before frying something. Didn't have to move one wire on the harness or switch, go figure. Also the intake boots and K&N were perfect fit for these carbs as well, so it was a pretty clean changeover. Other than the motor detune on the zephyr they seem closer to the same bike spec. every time I interchange a part.

One item that needed attention was the Zephyr clutch cable route required another retainer to keep it from the throttle assembly. A simple aluminum bracket I fabed up will keep it out of harms way. Attached it to the back starter cover bolt. PITA to tighten! Need shorty ball ends now.

Will take some pictures tomorrow, as it's late and I want to crack another beer. Had to stop drinking around 3pm so I could take it for a ride at 7pm. :P

Broke one of the mirror mount brackets. It was damaged in one of the crashes anyhow. I over torqued it and cracked. Luckily, I have two bottoms, one will be machined to be a top now.

Ride this eve was cool. As stated there is a rough spot. Will get the carbs synced up soon...See what else it may need.

Two questions.

What do you guys do with your vents when running pods? I have them plumbed to a T under the frame with a mini pig tale hose pointing up under the tank.

Do the BS need two vacuum feeds to the petcock diaphragm?
Wonder if the anemic response in 1st and 2nd are due to a lean condition with not enough vacuum on the petcock.
Once it has some inertia going in 3, 4 and 5 it seems to be ok.

Will post some pics I promise.... Late.

Glad things are starting to work out...can't help you w/your carb issues...bounce those questions off WG's noggin on his website. You inspire me to finish what I have going on and start the resurrection of my R1. :)

It just needs to be jetted correctly.

That may also improve some with correct jetting.

Just leave them open.

This is the setup right now.

From WG:

Re-used Dynajet jet needles; clip to 2nd slot but used 40 Mik pilot and 140 Mik main. Ran OK on our test bike after tuning.

What RPM will the mains usually kick in?

Trying to figure if this is a lean or rich condition. Feels lean but WTF do I know.

Will have to clean or get some new plugs and carry a plug socket for a bit. :)

They affect everything except closed throttle to some degree or another, however the effect on below 1/4 throttle is fairly minimal.

That won't do anything for you because it will be impossible to keep the engine at one combination of throttle position and rpm, meaning you won't know what combination of throttle position and rpm was responsible for the plug coloration.
