Hey all,

Long story short my old man bought a kz750 l3 brand new back in 84. He married my mom and wasn't allowed to drive it since 86'. I recently inherited it after being stored indoors with 6387km on the odo. Folks are still alive, no worries there. However i.am confused with the fork sticker showing a year date of 84. I know these were made up until 1983 can anyone shed some light on this?

I have been rebuilding the carbs slowly and plan to do a full build with some gsxr forks and possibly a mono shock rear but that all comes later. Coming up here from Ontario.

The Ontario ownership papers will have the VIN and the model year on it.

I am figuring your in Ontario Canada (snow machines behind the bike) probably not from Ontario, California.

I believe the L3 was only made for 1 year in 1983 (not 100% on that) it could have been at the dealership till 1984.

Can you show a picture of the fork sticker and the stamped model & VIN ? Maybe someone changed the sticker but the stamped info should be legit. Ed

A KZ750-L3 should be a 1983 model. The white vin label on the steering head should have the date of mfg, so it could have been made in 82 or 83, probably between 07/1982 & 06/1983.

Hey all, thanks for the replies. My dad has been the only owner of this bike and it has pretty much been forgotten about up until now. No modifications. With 6000km it was never in the shop within the 2 years he drove it. I would just check ownership papers but the old man is busy and can't find them. Will post a picture of forks but they 100% say MFD. Date of 1984. Hence the confusion.

If it's all stock and hasn't been messed with you have a great bike to restore instead of modify. Once you start seriously modding anything it's hard to impossible to go back. You can usually find a bike project that was started, but given up on, if you want to mod it, instead of using a decent original. Just my two cents worth.

If it is a 1984 model, then it should be an L4. They were available outside the U.S. One was even discussed on KZR a while back.

Those bike were crazy popular here in Canada and over in Europe. The black color is most prevalent here but they also came in silver, that seems to be a popular color over in the UK.

If the ownership is lost your father needs to go down to the MTO so he can get a replacement then get it transferred over to you. You won't be able to ride it legally without one. All you need is the plate number and the VIN, since he is the only owner it should be real easy to look up. Sometimes older bikes like this drop off the system because they changed over to electronic data about 1995.

Hey all, yeah my father will get a new ownership when he has time to go to the MTO I'm just in no rush. Did the whole toilet bowl cleaner and BBs in the tank now waiting for tank sealer on order before I run any gas from the tank through the carbs.

That toilet bowl cleaner stuff is strong acid. HCl or similar. It's got to be neutralized or it will continue to eat away at the metal of the tank, plus it's prone to flash rust. Phosphoric acid is far better and safer for derusting.

The L model 750's are awesome for sure. The first GPz 750's are an adaption of an L. It sounds like you have a gem there.

Thanks Nessism. I topped up the tank with old gas after cleaning just to prevent the flash rust before the sealer arrives.
