So it turns out that during the 5 year hiatus the intake flow sensor has shat the bed......

Ebay to the rescue, again. Incoming intake boots, Mikuni RS34 pumpers, Motion Pro push-pull cable set and K&N filters

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

Wow. What a difference in performance from front to back. At this stage of the project, it is back on it's wheels, carbs & intake system installed & time for a first go at the starter button

It started right up & was on a low idle within minutes. The folks at Mikuni know their business when it comes to carburetors. The only adjustment to it was to up the idle just a smidge

The first trip around the block proved very positive. Brakes like it never had before, and pumper carbs are very responsive.
Idiot lights, turn signals and a headlight to complete the project... oh, and Mrs slayer has to deal with the DMV to get her tags

Great job. I’m not a big fan of three spoke mags, but them there look like they belong. Good choice.

I have the RS34 Pumpers on my GPZ1100 B1 and they RULE!   At 90mph I can grab a handful and the bike just leaps forward with a mighty roar...I love them.  It never stops pulling hard until I hit the red mark on the tach!

I would say you might want to back one or both of the return springs off a notch to relieve some of the throttle stiffness.

I have about 12000 miles on my GPZ1100 since finishing it 2 years ago, I ride to work everyday during the season on country roads and really let'er eat, and so far no issues.

Critical to safety though, is seriously improving the suspension, see my other post on the mods I did, before doing those it was a death trap.  Now I have total confidence in WOT operations.;)

Also if your running 18" wider performance wheels like I am (GSXR1100) I have found a great set of tires, Pirelli Phantom SportComp radials...they are awesome, massive stick..and v rated.   They look cool too...they also come in 17" as well...

Update:
It turns out I have some more cleaning to do on the gas tank. When I recently started it back up again, it didn't have the same response it once had. It only wanted to run on the choke... dammit.

Off with the carbs & float bowls.

Yes Sir. New carbs, new gas and some crap in the bottom of the tank..... so...

Off with the tank and plug the open holes as needed

Then it's off to get vinegar and other crap to clean out the tank with... AAaaarrrgghhh!!

So it turns out that people don't even look weird at you when you buy 5 gallons of vinegar from the grocery store?!    I kind of expected it. Whatever...

The gas tank was sealed up tight... except for the petcock. I tried using a baggie and a couple layers of electrical/duct tape, but no love. It started to leek after a couple of minutes.

Mrs slayer's amazon account to the rescue. jeff bezos has 4 packs of caps to fit the petcock thread delivered for $12 or some such thing... should be here tonight, and the gas tank cleaning project can continue.

Pardon me while I go and post 3 gas tank petcock caps for sale! LOL!

Sorry no pics of leaking gas tank.

I would not completely seal the tank. Set it upright on the bench in its normal orientation and fill to the top and not close the fuel cap. The couple times I used this technique it was bubbling and I’m sure if sealed would build pressure. Did you toss in a handful of screws into the dry tank and shake shake shake, it’s helps break up the rust.
