Thanks. I've seen that photo somewhere before but dismissed it as I didn't think the side cover would still go on. Guess I should have checked ;)

I just picked up some used parts on ebay - a tool try and a drawer for the tail section. Does anyone know how to tell if they are original or replica parts? Not really that important but it would be nice to know for when I tally up all the non-original parts when this thing is back together.

I don't know much but I do know that the document trays were tailored to specific model years and sub-models like Z1, KZ, or LTD.

The document tray has a picture of a KZ1000A1 or A2 on it, so if it is original it should be right...

Looks original to me. Here's mine:

All of the dimples in the trays look identical.

Back in the saddle and loving it! KZ1000A1

Thanks. The thing that got me wondering was the tool tray being asymmetrical, but it looks like that is normal (the bit at the front is slightly off to the left).

The main harness runs around the left side of the headstock and attaches to the left frame rail, underneath.  The Y in the harness sits roughly right behind the coils.  I used to have photos of how it goes, but I can't find the correct ones.

If your question on the frame brace refers to the one near the end of the tank, it's used to tuck away the ends of the carb vent holes.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Yeah, that was what I meant. There is also a nut welded to the plate - any idea what screws into that?

Next question: My kickstarter has about 10mm of play at the end. This is due to a pretty sloppy fit between the two parts of the kicker. Is this normal or did my chrome guys go a bit crazy with the belt sander?

Looks normal to me but i have to ask, how often did you have to use the "cosmetic" kicker?

Thanks. It was more a question of the work the guys had done - I didn't look to closely at it before I took it apart and dropped the parts off to be plated. Now I'll just assume it was like that beforehand...

The kicker has an adjuster screw I think.

No idea what screws into that nut.  None of my bikes has one.
