Thank you man took some effort to get the paint right. I had some paint runs under the masking, but managed to put some gold on the pinstripes before the clearcoat. So it turned out good by my standards. This is in no way a showbike, as it will be used as my daily rider during summer

I got ahold of a used front fender that I was planning to chop up and paint. But after a close inspection I dont think I can use it without spending way to much money on it. (It's both dented, bent, and has alot of rust holes in the chrome)... So I will "destroy" the good one, but that's gonna be next time I'm home. I leave for work in 4 days, and easter is for family, friends, drinking and partying 

So I might have to run chrome rear fender + original front fender this summer, depending on how much freetime I get from my job before the middle of may (which is when I have my final driving test).

I haven't forgotten about you and will update you when it's ready for shipping! (If you're still interested when I'm ready to sell that is!)

Hahaha, yeah, when you say it, I actually thought about just clearcoting it after masking.. but then again the green colour turned out tits. Pictures is one thing, but in reality, wow.... The colour is just amazing.

I want to know how you keep paint over spray from covering everything else in your shop?

Painted the parts one by one outside, hung them up to dry inside. 

Also the shop is closed for the holiday, so there's no cars inside.

Previously we had a paint booth at the shop, but that one was sold a couple years back and replaced in favour of a fluid film rust treatment room ~~ Which is not a good environment for painting.

I'm soon leaving again, so the parts will be left to dry for 2-4 weeks. Untill next time!

Don't omit "feathering" the painted surface on the gas filler opening, specifically at the gas cap seal...
Sand down to bare metal. Otherwise gas will creep under the paint and destroy your excellent work.

 

Yeah, I've been thinking a little about that. I might sand it down a little and put on a layer of clear coat with a paint brush on the "edge".

Either that and/or just put a small bead of some sealant like tec7, rotabond, sikaflex etc. 

Buuuuut then again. Painted 3* 50cc's the same way and never had any problem with paint cracking.

I have 3* 50cc bikes I've painted the same way, and never had any problem with gasoline ruining the paint, but then again this is the *most complicated* paint job I've done so far.

I can't take all the credit as I just prepped, sanded and "bondoed" the parts. My father did the "spraying-part" as he is the most experienced on that part.

I have seen chopper folk use a high quality nail polish clear coat.Brush is included, pay attention to lacquer or water base though.
The old paint  always start to "lift" around the gas cap as others have said.
