So you may have saw my previous post on possibly picking up a 1981 KZ750 LTD for $400. I got the bike Friday and got it home. Bike has the carbs, but not installed on the bike. Owner stated bike had run a couple of years back. I am looking to leverage this forum to help with the build. This is my first project bike purchase.

Current state of the bike after getting it home.

My vision for the bike over the Winter.

Regards,
SnyperX

It seems to be complete, that will save you a lot of time - you won't have to do as much shopping.  🙂
btw, we love pictures

How long and where did it sit with the carbs OFF/

as far as I know it was in the sellers garage. I am not sure on how long the carbs have been off.

I'd vac it out then put a little oil in each cylinder before turning it over.

Good luck with your project.  My signature has several links you may find useful.  Most specifically, new owner things to know, and a source for carb O-rings.  Don't be tempted to buy "carb kits", do a full teardown and replace the O-rings.  That should be all you need, other than, maybe, float valve needles.

Good luck again.

Quick update. I was able to get the carbs rebuilt and back on the bike. Currently in process is exhaust removal (stock exhaust left muffler was broke with previous owner trying to fix it with band clamps and wrapped sheet metal) and installing new 4 in 1 exhaust. Carbs are re-jetted for the pods and exhaust (#140/#70). Hopefully can fire it up in the next week or so and work to get it balanced and running well. Plan is to have it rideable by Spring with a full tear down and re-paint next Fall. I big thank you to the folks here on the forums, especially @Wookie58 and @Nessism!!

Things still to do (parts coming from Z1E):
  • Chop front/rear fenders
  • New 1 piece seat (ordered from Texavina)
  • Front master cylinder rebuild
  • 530 chain conversion (16/38T)
  • New tail light and turn signals
Carbs Cleaned and reassembled:

Carbs installed back on the bike with pods:

Stay tuned........

SnyperX
