Been a while since my last post. My old 750 LTD running great. I just got a note from a biker friend last night that he knows someone that has an 81 KZ1000P for sale. I wondered if there is anything special that I need to look for that is specific to a police bike. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Mark

Nothing special really! Just more fairing than a usual 1000 from the same year, no passenger seat and brakes and shifter and like foot rests. I dont have one, I just have the manual with them included, but I do look forward to the day of owning one, it would be great!

I am pretty sure the 81 cop bike is a lot different than the other 81's, I think it still had the 1015 motor and not the 998 the others used. And I think it was a KZ1000C, but again, I'm not sure :)

I just checked the parts diagrams at kawasaki.com, and they list it as a 1981 KZ1000C4, and it shares the motor parts with the 77-80 KZ1000's

You should ask PT about cop bikes, he knows 'em pretty well. Oh wait, he had a hissy fit and quit KZR.:S

I asked about KZ cop bikes a few weeks ago and PT gave me some good basic info and some links. Search Police Bike Question in the Search Forum box.

Steell is correct in that in 1981 the Police bikes were the "C" series. One way the earlier models differ from the later "P" models is the floor boards bolt onto the frame in the early ones. On the later models the floorboard bracket was welded to the frame.

Again, by checking the parts diagrams section at buykawasaki.com you can compare the differences to the later Police bikes as well as to the civillian models.

I always thought the earlier models seemed like they took the current civillian model and modified it with add-ons. The later models had a more "purpose built" frame. The KZ-1000 Police models have been called the "pick-up truck of motorcycles" because, like other Police vehicles, everything was heavy duty.

But he did quit; at least TG went all out and got himself kicked out!
:pinch:

PT sure was the 'go to' guy for Police bike info.
