Finding a KZ

Alright guys, I need help (and im not sure where to post this) not so much because I don't know how or I'm lazy but mainly just to have more then one pair of eyes looking for one. I'm not picky just want a kz900 or 1000 pre-1984 preferably pre-1980, within 500 miles of Memphis, TN and in "decent" shape. My price range tops out at two-grand. Hmmm I guess I am picky (sorry lol). I have a watchful eye on ebay and such but I don't know any where-abouts of nearby salvage yards or insurance auctions. I'm sure someone lives within a tri-state area of me and knows of one. Thanks in advance.

Have you heard of Craigslist? I see KZ's frequently on the Oklahoma one, I bet there are plenty in Memphis.

Perfect, thanks a ton. 2 minutes into searching and i found one for 1200. Maybe i can use this to find my brothers stolen Kawasaki.

Not to point out the obvious but if anybody finds a decent pre 80 KZ1000 or 900, we will most likely keep it ourselves. Those are hard to find these days, and getting harder. I see cheap KZ's from time to time but they are usually in rough shape or chopped all to hell. I am in Nashville and will keep an eye out.

Interestingly enough, I have found more big stuff on the local Craigs list (and KZR ads) than on eBay...but I spend more time on eBay...

I would suggest increasing your search radius. If you find one that runs good 1000 miles wouldn't be that bad. I rode mine home from OKC (551 miles) and could have done another 500 after a little nap.

Actually if anybody finds one anywhere, and has the money I would suggest snaggin' it up. Running or not, ratty or not, junk or not.

I have a friend that has had a mostly Z1 and KZ business for a very long time. He told me the other day that he just sold 35 Z1s to some wealthy businessdude in Japan.

I'm sure not all were running or anywhere near cherry but from the smile on his face as he told me about it I'm sure he made a good chunk of change.

These old scooters are classics now. Not only classics but vintage badass's.

Ok ok... I'm preaching to the choir, but my old '75 Z1 parts bike just became a long term project.

Except for Randy. I just found one for $800 here in Spokane and it doesn't even run. The only other one I have seen around here in the past year or so, the guy wanted 2k for it and it looked pretty beat.

$800 is OK if ALL it needs is engine work. Hell, if you can find a MINT stock 73-76 for under $2500 don't worry about whether or not it's running...
