That old thing?

I started collecting tanks for the '81 GPz550 in 1999 or so on eBay. At the moment the spare pile contains that one, one that was repainted in plain firecracker red, and one with the proper OEM stripes. The original tank is in pretty nice shape, so I haven't used any of the others.

I picked up the 440 LTD several years ago because I wanted a project and didn't seem to be able to find the 440B I wanted. Then I had the good luck to find two Bs and the LTD has been sitting.

The plan was to cut the original seat down (mostly done) and sew a cover for it (definitely not done). I had originally fitted a GPz tank temporarily to a KZ400B and figured it would probably fit on the LTD as well. I did trim an inch or so off the front of the seat pan but it seems to work pretty well. And that's where the project stalled.

I love non mainstream art on bikes!
I hope to have a collection of original motorcycle art from all eras one day.
the rawness of that tank is just badass, but I'm pretty out there on stuff I dig ................and I'm fine with it.

I've often wondered how the tank came to be in that condition. In general I think it was a pinstriping exercise, but have no idea why someone would practice on that particular tank. The blue and silver stripes were masked off while the very front and back of the tank weren't repainted. I dunno. :)
