69 H1 On Bring A Trailer

Thank-You for the info!! Just forwarded the info to a Friend that we'd restored the same years ago. Not too far from KS either. And, didn't look like it was pulled from the field either. 

Glad to see you or your friend may be interested, while it's not perfect it's missing the right side emblem on the oil tank and has some minor rust on some of the chrome bolts but seems to be in decent shape for it age it just needs someone like you to bring it back to it's former glory. I check BaT daily you never know what's going to show up next.

I owned a 72 H1 years ago it was my first street bike and I still have a soft spot in my heart for the old triples. 

Thank-You soo much my Friend! While i'm not much of a picture taker, had the last 69 H1 and H2 1972 featured at local events. Of course midwestern folks not NEARLY as nearly as picky as our bothers in arm across the pond. But they both won those "pressed-wooden" placards, ha. Reference to what magazine it eventually was featured in, VJMC rag. Did somehow pull-up a pic of it's gauge package and when i was a centerfold, hilarious. I was a true centerfold, stapling was right at the start of the article, he. Never wanted/needed the notoriety but my Buddy Mark insisted he wanted to compose an article. So my 2-seconds of fame i suppose.    

Dug-up an old rag that featured those two that i was talking about, still VJMC though. I'm nothing special, several folks that frequent this site have the same, if not an abundance of their 2-seconds too.

That's pretty cool Clay! I had what I'll call my one second of fame more funny than anything else, my good friend raced a Top Gas Harley and we were at Beech Bend Dragway at the all Harley drags. Biker Magazine (a spin off of Easyrider) was there to do a write-up of the event. I was part of my friends pit crew and during the break in racing they had pit bike racing.

We had an old Vespa scooter for a pit bike and the photographer caught the perfect pic of me coming off the line, he came to our pits later that evening to get my address and to thank me, he said he knew it was a money shot for him. He sent me a 8x10 pic and a copy of the issue of the mag.....can you guess which one is me      

Ha Ha ha, the hair gives you away. Is that a luggage rack with wheelie bar (skateboard) wheels on it missing in the photo on that Vespa? Is there nothing you ride that doesn't do a wheelie? Perhaps you should of taken up the Unicycle, ha ha.

Well as I stated above my first street bike was a 72 H1 and a life racing motocross in my younger days. No wheelie bar just good balance, I will say the only thing keeping me on that thing was my grip on the controls and my gonads. I thought it was funny that the guy I was racing in that pic just sat there watching me instead of watching the tree.

I also had a pic of an 18 wheeler I drove to the west coast and back east pictured in a hardback book called The Long Haul Trucking In America, I was 22 when I started driving cross country and I drove the same truck for many years. The guy that did the book was from France and was intrigued by the trucking industry and the cool trucks in the US. He got a great pic of me going west up Flagstaff mountain in Arizona a two page centerfold pic. Just think a guy my age with no cell phone or gps just a road atlas to find a single address thousands of miles from home.

 

That's a Diamond Reo isn't it? I still use my 91' Gousha spiral bound laminated truckers atlas to plan rides. My favorite truck of my career was a 79' Freightliner conventional with a turbo supercharged Detroit 8V92 and a 13sp Road Ranger.

Used to traverse that 40HWY section of Flagstaff everytime i drove to Phoenix. Beautiful scenery, nice crisp air. Then one descends into the convection oven known as Phoenix!

Yes Kelly it's a 1972 Diamond Reo, It also had a 13sp Road Ranger trans powered by a 350 Cummins. I live in the town where Cummins Engine headquarters is located and the truck was running a test engine.
