Why not try to honor fallen members like Patton, Larry C, Lou D, and so on to the KZR forum T-Shirts. Just a though of me.....

Thank you posting this. I’m glad to see a proper memorial thread for Lou. I never met him in person but his mere existence was comforting. I always appreciated his generous and helpful nature, and knew that no matter what crazy electrical issues arose with my bike or whatever whacky, creative projects I would take on, Lou would be there to support me with his deep knowledge, wisdom and kindness. I’ll miss him and imagine many others will as well. Condolences to his family and thank you, Lou, for everything you’ve done for us,

I was hoping it was a mistake. Bill made him a mod so he could do a few things on the site. When asked if he'd like to stay on he said he'd rather not. Now I think I understand. I had more questions for him but I waited, now I'll have to find the answers myself. The one thing that stood out for me was his warning on the 550 cam chain adjuster and to remove/disable it before installing the cam cover. I think it's the same with the later bikes with the HIVO cam chains as well. Saved a lot of extra trouble for us. His sage advice and eagerness to help will be missed.
Hope to see you on the other side Lou, Godspeed
Steve

If nobody else has already done it I could start saving the web pages from his site.

A long time ago I had a program that could download all the files for simple pages (straight HTML). Maybe something like this?

With the help of the tool DOHC linked I downloaded the website. I thought I was going to have to edit all the links which would have taken a while but that handy little program sorted all that out when it downloaded the pages. I've linked the zip file with the site below. Maybe one of the mods can upload it here - it's about 350MB so not easy to send.

Just unpack the zip file and open "Index.html" in the gpzweb folder and you will have an offline version of Lou's site. Six files failed to copy, these are documented in "readme.txt". I'm assuming that they are just missing from the site, if anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

I hope this is OK, I assume Lou would want us to keep all this knowledge available.

Wow, really? This makkes mevery sad, but it is not about me, it's all about Lou. He was a very smart guy, and his love and understandings for electronics, as well as the GPz550, and other motorcycles, he will always be known and remembered as a helping guy. From his modificaation to have the headlight off while the engine was cranking, to his odd looking tachometer with the mph lines on it, he added so much here, and the old GPz550 Forum. Got to meet him when I flew to Chicago for a traning seminar, and we stayed up all night driving from bar to bar, because then you could drink all night. Lou, you will be missed, and I hope the Kawasaki Gods are being nice to you.

I'm sad and shocked to hear about Lou! We'll all miss his contributions. I actively searched for his posts when I had electrical questions.  I'm also surprised to see that he was much younger than I thought. With the amount of knowledge he shared with us he impressed me as an older wiseman.

R.I.P. Lou.
As Steve said, Lou's warnings about the 550 cam chain tensioner were instrumental in my understanding what the previous owner had done to cause the wear in the top chain guide.
