Taking KZ to Bonneville Salt Flats - BUB's was created by Summerheat
Have a question all the west coasters or high elevation riders.

I've got 120's in my carbs and WG likes that setup for a Kerker 4 into 1 with pods.

Am getting a lil worried going from Indiana 967 elevation to over 4000 elevation in Bonneville for the run.

I guess I'm looking to hear from some high elevation riders if I need to do anything else.

Thanks

just riding there or are you going to speed it up on the salt?
We saw a kz650 there a couple of years ago from Cannada.
He said the normal gasoline you buy at the gas station didn't run well on the salt.

I was just there last week. Dude! As the Californians love to say. The salt is still wet deeper in. I don't know if I would ride there on the bike. You may dump it hard and what's more the gas over there sucks. 91 octane at the pump. You should set it up to run on high octane gas and wait until the end of the month before you try it. Peace.
By the way I took my car on it for a run and it was scary side to side action as I slowly lost traction on the wet salt.

It was a blast but the most I could go was about 80 before I ran in to very wet salt and car was all over the flats like the vision from the movie The World's Fastest Indian where the bike goes side to sid like a snake moving.

I guess that was it in the video. They have to smooth the course with machines. Makes sense. My ride was a bit scary to be honest but way fun. Are you planning on going for speed week?

This is a Sept. 1 trip and running in the BUB Speed Trials. Will definitely be trailering the bike out there to keep my Pit Boss (aka Girlfriend) comfortable and the bike salt ready :)

This is actually 2 weeks after Speed Week and hopes will be for some nice salt.

Thanks for the heads up on Octane as I currently run 87.

Awesome! I would like to do that too. Is that Labor Day Weekend we are talking about? Hmmmm.
87 octane in your bike? I never run anything less than premium. The Kaw deserves it. And even less now that I have a nice kit in it.
If you are gonna run it like you stole it you might wanna set it up to run on racing fuel for the event.
Also, make sure to bring a camera and don't be afraid to post those shots. We would all love to see that stuff.
Shame I can't go. I am already up to my neck in debt and with the rebuild on my engine even more so for at least a few months. I still have to go to Sturgis next week with my buddies. My first and last time for that event though. Not that I won't love it but just because there are sooo many things to do everywhere else in the world. Like the salt flats and....

Nice photo! Could read the whole thing. Didn't know it was also a shooting range, look at that sign!

Yeah I was blasting holes in it with my imaginary pistol.lol I still have salt stuck to the underside of my car. Hmmmmm.... I would never take my baby on that. The last time I rode in the salt covered weather I really messed my bike up. No matter how you wash them they still have something somewhere you miss just like the shards of glass you step on after you think you swept up that broken bottle or glass really well.

33 year old bike blasting down one of the most legendary stretches of speed in the world.

I'll get her cleaned up when she is back home and save some of what I find to :)

Very nice... Just make sure you take plenty of pictures of that hallowed ground with you screaming down the flats. I wish I woulda stayed a bit longer to play. If I had a jeep I woulda done it for sure.
