First time on track - Willow Springs

Fantastic to see and to hear about!
I am considering building a track bike out of my pile of KZ parts...
What did you think of the Avon Roadriders on the track?
What sizes are you running?
Do you know if your bike is higher or lower after the suspension and wheel modifications?

Congratulations on taking the plunge. u will never be sorry u did. what a great experience it is. it will pave dividends on the road and track for sure. i did my coarse 2 years ago and have been enjoying track days since. u and your bike, look right at home on the track. :evil:

Jeff I love the endurance races, I have vowed to go see either the Bol in France or the Bikers Classic at Spa in the next few years. Here’s a few youtube clips from the races at Spa, that Offenstadt Kawasaki is bitchen and makes me want to mount a full fairing on my Z.





Cafekz750 I am very impressed with the RoadRiders. They are not as sticky as a race tire of course but they warm up quickly and grip extremely well. Stickiest bias ply I have found so far.
I run 110/80-18 and 130/80-18. I had to mount brand new tires, I still have my take offs which are 80% or better I will let go for $95 plus shipping if you want them.
The rear is jacked up I am running 15” shocks (stock is 13”). Forks are same length as stock, still dropped through the trees about an inch. Turns better and no stability or ground clearance issues but all my shit is tucked in TIGHT.

Neat...what is with the linkage on the brake caliper.

It must be some kind of adjustable anti-dive....crazy stuff. I wonder how well it works if you hit a bump while on the brakes, though.

Or when you're hard on the brakes and let go of the lever with all that weight piled on the front... wonder how predictable that feels. It's the only P&M I've seen with that anti-dive. Not as funny as this front end though. This ran at Bol d'Or in the seventies I think?

The PZ2 marking on that front tire brings back fond memories. Back in the day I used Michelins with PZ2 compound and S&W shocks on my KZ650 on the street. The rear tire would only last 1,000 miles (and that's with only using the rear brake gently) and the front would last 2,000 miles. I went through 18 tires in 2 summers ($1800 back then was a ton of cash) but man did I have a ball. Anyone who thinks a KZ650 cannot handle the "twisties" well should have been there. Not up to modern standards, I'm sure, but there was little that kept up with it back then. I have since mended my evil ways and replaced my worn down footpegs. :laugh: Ed
