Corey and Brian's GPz550 Road Trip 10/08-10/13

Been a while since I have posted here, but I thought I'd include you in on my trip.

October 8-13 San Francisco to San Diego (via Hwy 1), and back. A friend of mine from Canada who races on a GPz550, will be coming out to California for the first time. What better way for him to see the sights than do a road trip with a couple of GPz550s? Both will be 1985 Models, and with my brother riding along with us on his Suzuki 1200 Bandit, we will make the trip in a week, staying at motels along the way.

Here is the route we have so far:

Day 1, 10/08 (SF to Cayucos)

After a tour for Casey and Brian at Motion pro, we head south on Hwy 1, but no Laguna Seca because they have an event that day. We will be doing the Historic Monterey 17 Mile ride.

Day 2, 10/09 (Cayucos to Santa Monica)

This will have up stopping in Pismo Beach to ride on the sand, like that of Daytona Beach, before continuing on our way.

Day 3, 10/10 (Santa Monica to Newport Beach)

Queen Mary in Long Beach is one of the stops for this leg. I was thinking of taking Brian through where the LA Riots were, but he has a wife to get back home to in Montreal, so after all I have put into his bike for registration and preparation, I'll be happy to go around that area.

Day 4, 10/11 (Newport Beach to AirTECH and back to Newport Beach)

This was to be an easy trip to AirTECH in Vista, near San Diego, but when I saw how short it was, and because my brother that is coming with us and I grew up in the Huntington Beach Area, I thought we'd take a little trip past out high school, and the house we grew up in in Fountain Valley. We will be riding past Disneyland.

Day 5, 10/12 (Newport Beach to Calabasas)

This day is not in stone yet, as we will be heading to APE via Angeles Crest Hwy, and then back to The Rock Store, and to somewhere near there. The Rock Store is only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)

Day 6, 10/13 Calabasas to San Francisco) This last day has us finishing up back to San Francisco, and the map is so far looking like this:

For those in the LA/OC Area, we are planning to be at The Rock Store Friday Afternoon. I hope to see a flock of Kawasaki's out there.

So, on Day 5 we will be meeting another GPz550 Owner, Ping, at the Shell Station just off 210 and Angeles Crest Hwy for the ride to APE, then to The Rock Store.

I am 500 ft past the last carmel area gas pumps rev it up I can hear all the bikes when they go by

give me some revs on the 8th

I will see where that gas station is, and maybe we could pull in and fill up.

OK your job site is not that gas station, but with 2 race exhausts on both GPz550s you will hear us coming:

i dont work there ....that is just the nearest land mark....but after/as you pass that gas station the bikes will be in some terrific twisties unreal really...careful at that spot though the bikes pipes echo down to the house im on by the water...i'll hear you...but cant leave work to meet you or would for sure...next time....that is the last store until you get to the stores in big sur,but they are close...if you fill up at the chevron in carmel area(you'll see it ) you can full throttle till deep into cambria area no problem...but even if you gas up down there in the big sur area it's like 2 bucks more for our tanks so who cares......on bikes it is real fun right through and past those pumps in the picture...you wont want to stop there,you'll be knee dragging at that point :laugh: ... leaving carmel...long hilly straights,then point lobos state park is the last sign you will see before you hit about 10 good tight sweepers,,leaving the monterey/carmel/17 mile drive....you will see point lobos and that is where the ride really gets nice...premiere bike road...lobos to morro bay...,,\the coast opens up and you on the south section of hwy 1

No knee dragging with tail and saddlebags, but we will be loud wherever we are.

A week from Monday, and we will be on our way.

-Thursday's ride to Air Tech in Vista will have us returning to Newport Beach, via Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, for a tour and parade lap, and a drive by of Disneyland for my friend Brian.
-Friday will have us touring APE and then a confirmed parade lap of Willow Springs Raceway, afterwards, we will be heading to The Rock Store. 2 additional GPz550s will be riding with us through Angeles Crest Hwy from Pasadena. Come out if you have the day off.

Those in the LA, IE, and OC, are more than welcome to come along.

He is flying in to San Francisco and I am supplying him with another '85 GPz550.
