shimming a head

I never mess with changing shims. I leave the valves out, put the buckets in with any old shim ive got, put the cam in, torgue it, slide in a valve and hope for no clearance. Then i grind the stem untill ive got the spec i want. Fast, simple. Ive never had a problem and it its very accurate. I can hear the grinder right now. Love that grinder. makes cam chain tensioners too.

What he is saying, is that he adjusts valve clearance by grinding the tip of the valve instead of swapping shims.
Of course that's a hard way to do it, unless you already have the cylinder head off the motor and the valves out
