Thank you Scirocco. This looks great.

I will try as soon as possible and see if this will work. My question, even before trying, is: How can the stuck bolt be extracted by pushing into that little hole, if the bolt is screwed into the carb body?

Not questioning it will work or not, just curious.

C.
I believe this is only relevant if the "tapered tip" has broken off, not the threaded section

I believe this is almost always the case. The screw has a tapered tip and the passageway is also tapered. When tightening the screw, the tapered part of the screw contacts the tapered walls of the hole before the screw runs out of threads. Thus, when a ham-fisted goober tightens the screw, the tapers wedge together and the fragile shaft gives up, leaving a broken tip fragment jammed into the hole, while the threaded part easily screws out.
If corrosion or some physical damage are the cause of the broken screw, then a portion of the threaded bit could still be in there, creating a much bigger headache.

Unfortunately in my case, it’s the upper part that was sheared. I’m left with just the threaded part in there.

I will try to move it, otherwise I’ll have to drill it.

Do yourself a favor and get some reverse drill bits.

On a positive note~~~

Think of all the money we are spending  saving by doing the work on these toys ourselves!

Not so good news today. Lots of penetrating oil, and tried to move it from the top. Finally drilled a hole and went in with a bolt extractor.

i can’t believe it; but I am wondering if the damn po guy got some loctite here or what. In any case; a large part of the needle housing gave way and even now, the needle won’t move.

The only way I see moving forward is to:

1.- replace that carb body (getting them all apart)
2.- find a new set of carbs

Here is a picture of the butchered carbs:

I have found a set of z1000j carbs in ebay Germany, that don’t cost an arm and a leg; but seem to be completely different from the ones I have. Would these fit? Would any other bike model fit? Take a look at the pics

I'm still looking at a future BOTM
see what you mean with the German carbs, they appear to have a remote choke ?? Not sure if the later J3's went to remote ??
