So the exciter was removed.
now I’m still puzzled.
Checked the coils per specs and they came out fine.
Battery was checked, said it was fine but tonight I charged it and it was very warm. Maybe the battery is actually garbage but test and loads out fine?

Still completely puzzled here….

Did you check the supply voltage to the coils both static and when cranking the engine ? I would suggest the following
  1. Check battery voltage ( should not drop below 9.5v - 10v when cranking)
  2. Connect voltmeter red lead to battery + and black lead to supply side of coils (Looks like a red wire ?) reading should be no more than 0.5v when ign on and kill switch set to "run"
  3. With the voltmeter still connected as above crank the engine and note the readings

Check your spark timing for each coil.
Your spark could be advancing or retarding.

I replaced the DYNA S and the bike started right up and ran. It was the DYNA S the whole time. Dyna even told me it wasn't, SO MUCH FOR THEIR TECH PEOPLE.

Just a side note, all the ground comes from the cable that bolts on your rear motor case with a 10 mm bolt. This cable is a crimp cable over solid core ,stretches, gets brittle and loosens but the bike runs  .But when you fire your 29s up with a lot of flow it can't get enough spark then you can start chasing your tail. Glad you got it right now. You still might check your cable if it's original.
.  Thanks for your help sharing with us all .
