I tore apart the other donor engine, no cracks on that one but someone did a pretty rough job cleaning up the mating surfaces for the case, and I'm not sure I want to use that one. Obviously TIG welding the crack would be best, has anyone had any experience with brazing aluminum?

As already suggested before, you should have go the "sleeve way".......
