referman - I'm going to heli-coil some cam bearing cap holes on my Z1 and want to find the drill guide you showed in a post from May of 2022.  Tried to find www.eastcoastadditive.com but no luck.  Anybody know a way to find one?

I know it's not answering you query but i've done hundreds of cam cap thread repairs and never needed a guide.
You just need a bench drill to ensure the holes are drilled square and then either use the chuck to start the tap straight or use a simple tapping block.

Hi sf4t7, it looks like they are out of business and the last post on facebook was in 2022. The tool did make it easier but I've fixed may with out it.

Just a thought...could the cam cap potentially serve as a guide, while held in place with the other three bolts?

I've fixed many without drilling and with a 1/4" open end wrench.

Theoretically yes but there is a significant risk of removing material from the cap with the side of the drill bit which would render it scrap (the caps are matched to the head when line bored ) and possibly the whole head as a result unless you could find another cap which would fit without "nipping" the cam bearings or being too loose

Could wrap something around the the drill bit to help center it and prevent that.
And blunt he cutting edge of the drill bit in that area if it helps.

Necessity is still invention's mother, and sometimes the best solutions are stupid-simple.

Random orphan caps are sold on evilly. Don’t use your matching one. Also one could install steel sleeves into the bore of the cap making it a nice jigs. Just my $.02

Keep the dowels in while drilling/tapping, they help to keep it somewhat straight. I have done plenty with the engine in the frame by hand, never had one that did not assemble after.
