hei mark

good eye... I would say that bike sits as tall as it can go by now,

at the rear i am surely on the limit as with my adjustable linkage the swingarm angle is such that the chain is rubbing on the top of it. could go higher at the front, but dont really want to slow the steering.

that said, at the point where the picture was taken, this track has a LOT of camber and really squashes the suspension with the G's. Just look how close the top of the fork is to the rubber band on the fork tube that shows the maximum compression while braking. I think this the only corner where i ground the pipe a bit in all of the season.

Hey TG - I also noticed in these photos that your left (rotor/stator) side cover is pretty shallow - is that a low profile cover you found somewhere or is that the way the GPZ covers are?

I have shallower than stock cast covers on both sides

I did these initially for my CB500/4 racer but they fit the kawa cases quite well.

designed them in pro-e CAD, a friend 3D printed them for me and then gave the patterns to a local guy who does old fashioned sand casting. can do more if you need.

obviously i run a chopped left crank end / no alternator / total loss ignition

these cast covers are much sturdier too, really protected the engine cases in a fall ( talking from experience ;) )

Very cool - how much did you have the crank cut back? It doesn't look like it sticks out much on my 650 when the rotor is removed.

Did you have someone machine the back sides of the covers after they were cast (gasket mating surface)?

I was thinking about trying to do something similar for the stator side of my bike, but I'm not sure how brave I am to attempt casting at this point.

as i dont have any plans to re-attach an alternator to any of my racers, did the covers as shallow as possible and then i cut off the crank stub. not by much, maybe 15-20mm but otherwise wouldnt fit inside my cover.

there's no sealing going on between cover and cases, so simply sanded the cover on a big piece of sanding cloth glued to a table, going back and forth.

like i said, i have castings if you need.

not just the track rule, its in our complete series handbook. it's an almost universal requirement in vintage racing.

a friend threw a rod just this weekend in a race and it really prevented a lot of oil form reaching the rear tire. could have been a big ouch!

Ya I think that is getting to be the rule and custom in any form of road racing, cage or two wheels. Fines for oiling the track as well.
